Guy at work had something on his leg that looked like that. Ten years later... BAM!... herpes.

Tips for going to the hospital or clinic. Go at shift change, this way you get to see the nurses leaving or arriving, and choose which shift has the best, in case you need a follow up appointment.

Herpes , now go buy a bike and a canoe and you will be better in no time

I just got over one like that. It is a bacterial infection very close to MRSA. Get your ass to the doctor now! They will give you two options, one is taking antibiotic pills to see if it will clear up, or two: numb the area, open it up with a scapel, and then digging deep to clean the infection from the tissue. They will rinse with a saline solution, pack it with gauze and you will go back to the doctor in two days to have the gauze removed. The wound will be left open to drain but you will use a nonstick pad, then a wad gauze to soak up the draining, covered with a waterproof, leakproof covering. It took my infection 7 weeks to completely heal. Send me a PM with your email if you'd like to see a photo while I'm on the table. I can't post a photo worth a crap here. View Quote While I appreciate your offer, I don't believe I'll take you up on it. Thanks for the description, though. |

Gonnersypherpaids?
Can't believe it's page 2 and I'm calling Dibs on guns/ammo/fastcars/loosewomen. GD is slipping! You said,"I don't have the 'beetus." Well, you did, but you didn't know. Ditto on the STD's. Tagged for the doc-in-the-box report. Let me know soon - they won't hold the rental truck very long. |
|
It's probably a simple Staphylococcus infection. I would go see the doc anyway.

Enjoy your MRSA I know my father is.
The best part is if you don't actually have MRSA right now you will after visiting the clinic/hospital. That or you got a nasty spider bite. I lost a chunk of my lower back to a spider bite once. |

MRSA... MRSA... blablabla it's MRSA...
You all realize that not every single staph infection ever is antibiotic resistant? |
|
I'd go see a dermatologist NOW. That could be a melanoma. Seriously.

Chigger bites on my legs end up looking like that, mainly because they itch like a motherfucker.
Also takes forever to heal. |

Urgent care doc mostly agreed with NavyDoc. Looks like some sort of bite, with a little necrotic tissue in the center. He put me on Bactroban ointment and Cleocin antibiotic. Hopefully this takes care of it. If not, he recommended I go see a dermatologist.

Sorry to hear. Had a buddy with something just like that. 4 years later, hit by a car and died.

looks to me like you got nailed by a nasty spider View Quote I had something similar this month. 21 days of antibiotics and I'm still having to change dressings on the wound caused when the thing opened up and drained. Not to mention the MRSA aspect of that sort of wound. I got news this weekend that The One Who Got Away almost died and spent several weeks in the hospital due to MRSA. They ended up having to remove several spots of infection to get he infection under control. The wife had a cousin who died from MRSA earlier this summer and one of her coworker's wife died after a long bout with the infection that saw her have one amputation after the other trying to stop the disease. |

Looks quite a bit like the staph infection I got in Mexico. no bite, no puncture, just showed up on my leg. I ignored it, until it went ape shit in a matter of hours, gave me a fever, started affecting my ability to think straight, and nearly (over the flight home) prevented me from walking(temporarily). It went from an itchy spot to a swollen, extremely painful lower leg that I couldn't put any weight on.
Get that shit checked out ASAP Edit: They didn't bother identifying the strain as most people up here have MRSA living on them to some extent, so they ended up giving me the same antibiotics they give MRSA patients. Worked like a charm. |

I work in the desert and have seen many similar wounds. I'm willing to bet there is a broken piece of vegetative matter (i.e. thorn) in that hole. Amaziningly, they often cause little or slight discomfort, usually a mild itch.

Oh, and I'm not diabetic. wanna bet? Had a blood work up for a life insurance physical recently. Fasting blood sugar was 89. Excellent. What was your A1C count? (longer term measurement of overall blood sugar level.) Fasting is good for an "at that moment" look. (Arfdocs-correct as needed.) |

Actually that 89 was a bit higher than I'd prefer. But it's less than the cutoff. |

No pain, no fever, no purulent drainage, no induration at the margins - which would point towards a cellulitis.
I would lean towards a localized reaction to an insect bite which can last for some time. Although they may give you antibiotics, you probably do not need them. Probably could get by with Benadryl (H1), Ranitidine (H2), and perhaps some hydro-cortisone cream topically - while keeping the area clean and watching for signs of infection. Post back and tell us what your provider did for you. |
