I guess my google-fu is weak....

Can anyone tell me why some stalks are higher than the rest? Are the taller stalks the pollen carriers?

This has been bugging me for awhile. Yeh, I'm bored today.

A lot of sorghum is heirloom or open pollinated (non hybrid) so the plants vary more than hybrid ones.

Soil, nutrient and water differences in different spots.

Seed differences (again more so with OP than hybrid seed).

ETA: Man, I used to love to peel a stalk of that and dip it in the molasses they were boiling off. Yum.

Thanks. That makes sense, I imagine they want all of them the same height for the harvester?
