I was given the S&W.  First time I fired it the cone split.  The previous owner had shot +P through it.  I've had it rebarreled, so it is no longer stock.

If given the chance would it be reasonable to trade this pistol for a used Model 19?

Why?

Pics?

If the barrel is OEM and properly sized, I don't think there's an issue. One gun is probably an appreciating asset. The other is not. But, the G19 is probably more useful.

Fuck no.

Pre-lock Smiths just keep going up in value.

Pics of K-38?

If the barrel was properly replaced then I'd say it would be a poor trade.

I sure wouldn't. Nobody is making revolvers of that quality anymore. Including S&W. That's why somebody wants it.

Keep the Smith, save up and buy a Glock.

Why would you even consider trading a fine piece of American steel for a plastic shoebox with a stick handle.

you can buy a glock anytime at any gun store. f no on that deal.

Depends on how ratty the Smith is. Generally hell no.

The K-38 isn't worth much with a replacement barrel. Maybe $300? And he was shooting hotter than +P if he cracked the forcing cone. Modern +P is anemic compared to most .38 spl loads when the pre-15 was made.

This.

OP needs to decide which is more important to him.

The model 10 is an obsolete antiquated relic of a past age.  Do you even operate, brah?

If I were in a gun fight, I'd rather have the Glock than the S&W, but I don't see this as a good trade for you, valuewise.

K-38 = pre model 15, right?

That American Steel will mean the world to your great grandson when he's holding it in his hand. The Glock is a superior fighting tool. You make the choice but I'd say keep the SW and buy a police turn-in G-19.

Yup. And I'm not saying I'd do the trade, but it isn't worth much rebarelled. My 15-2 is one of my favorite guns to shoot.

Few things better than taking a good wheel gun to the range.

Even better if you reload Cheap cast SWC with mid range 38spl loads and no brass to chase.

Usually stupid accurate with a great trigger pull.

I shoot auto's well and they are fun but there is something about a nice old double action S&W or Ruger at the range
