Nice to see the DU contingent checking in.

You don't have to be a member of a tiny crackpot website to know that they're just parroting the broader narrative.  That's exactly who Republicans are perceived to be.

As mentioned above, "not voting against = (kinda) voting for".  Right now there are a lot of people who are voting Democrat because they are voting against Republicans.  A good friend of mine was an 11B in the 101st, holds the Second Amendment sacrosanct, and routinely wears shirts to class on an ivy league campus that say things like "Nuke 'em till they glow and shoot 'em in the dark" and "Rhodesia will rise again".  He doesn't like Republicans either, and plans to just not vote this time around if the Republicans don't offer anyone likeable.

It's difficult for some people to wrap their head around, but Republicans aren't the only ones who think they're good people and everyone else is a selfish bastard.  Despite what we've all been telling ourselves since 2012, it ain't all about the free shit.

A lot of great points have been brought up..  but a lot of us are still thinking of who we 'want' to run in 2016, not who
will provide the best chance of a Republican POTUS/VP.  The party needs to step up and think in the bigger picture.. for example

Somebody has to be VP, so what if you 'only' want to be POTUS, fill a VP slot if it makes sense, brings the votes and wins the prize..

I'm still thinking along the 'sex' and 'race' lines..  I don't care if you are white (or not), male (or not)..

I'm changing my 'Go Team' to

Paul / Rice or Rice / Paul

If the R is as bad or worse than the D, what the fuck does it matter? A lot of the bullshit Bush pushed through was only because he was an R and so was the House and Senate. Medicare Part D anyone? If a D had tried to ram that pack of shit through every Republicna in the both houses would have fought it tooth and nail instead of bending over. Etc etc.

I don't see anyone with a chance to win except Rand. I don't know if he'll be able to successfully distance himself from the party's negatives and still bring the base along but that's what's required and he's the one to do it if it can be done.

I have mixed feelings about Rand, he seems to be about as good on issues as anyone can be and still be viable in the GOP, and it's hard to tell exactly how that equation balances. He's really good at the political game, obviously learned from his Dad's shortcomings in that regard.

The real problem is the Cheney wing of the party is going to try very hard to destroy him, and he'll have a hard time negotiating the primary without hurting his general election chances. The GOP is its own worst enemy. If he wins that battle he may emerge extremely strong though, hard to say how it's going to go.

Perry, Jeb, Christie, and even Cruz are non-starters. Santorum is a joke.

VP is a tactical decision that has to reflect the state of the race at the time, I doubt any of the names being mentioned would be the best choice. People generally tend to believe the republican bench is deeper than it actually is, national figures all carry way too much baggage and none of the candidates from the last couple cycles survived as a viable candidate.

Negative, the right isn't rallied by race baiting and winning an election is all about getting your base out to vote. The Dems ran the biggest socialist they had and the FSA came out in support, while the GOP ran the biggest left-winger we had and conservatives stayed home. Run someone that can go against 0bamacare, someone who didn't implement it in their home state first....

Who cares?  A republican will never in my lifetime be a president again.   The elections have been bought with lots of things.  College loan relief, mortgage relief, welfare.  They are bringing in thousands of new voters every day.  If you don't ID a voter  it doesn't matter

I would LIKE to see Cruz P Rubio VP, or Perry P Rubio VP. That being said, I don't think either is "do-able", since Perry and Cruz have pissed of too many people outside of Texas and the tea party. IMO,  2 VERY significant things that effect elections is the ability of candidates to "knock people to one side of the fence" and voter participation. That being said, a Christy/ Rubio ticket is probably more "do-able". Hard core dims and hard core republicans are rarely if ever swayed. Christy just seems able to knock more people off the fence on to his side, even though I don't care for him. Rubio is a minority (Latino) which will sway votes in his favor, as well as sex appeal with women voters and his own hot wife (ex Miami hurricanes cheerleader). As petty and stupid as this sounds, remember that this is my opinion of much of the available voter base. I'm a republican because I believe that party is concerned with what is best for the Nation and our traditional values. That's why I believe the worst republican is a better choice than the best dim. My 2 cents.

Gives me nightmares though.  We need a white male president, that's the only way the press will hold the POTUS accountable for anything. Another minority, especially a female minority, and every stinking one of the MSM reporters will feel a tingle run up their leg.

Call me shallow but someone has to capture a minority voter base. I think Rubio can do that. He can be a pretty good vote booster to actually get a real R in the oval office.

Not necessarily true.

The main thing that needs to happen is that people of ALL minorities need to vote in an educated manner with the white (for now anyway) majority getting off their collective asses and leading the way.

FAT chance.

Haven't you heard yet? The average american voter is voting based on emotion, not education. I hate to say it but the D's will probably run a minority (gender or ethnic) and if the R's dont, you can kiss this election goodbye. If the last two elections have shown anything, its that many uneducated voters will vote along race lines. I don't like it, but until there is some time to change that, you have to roll with it or you will get run over by it.
