This thread continues from my old one (from last year) which I never got around to updating.
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1502895_Firing_Range_Construction__Large_Pictures_.html&light=range As many projects around here do, this one got a little out of hand, and grew from what I originally planned. After completing what I originally intended (minus the buildings) in the old thread, I decided I still didn't have the room or distance I wanted for a range. After pondering many ideas on how to add some room, it occurred to me...this damn mountain is in my way. (The one on the left side of the first pic in original thread). Why don't we just dig it up, fill the hole (where the original range was) and flatten the whole side of the mountain? Well, hilarity ensued. The blue dump truck in the original picture, would now be sitting under 38ft of fill dirt had we not moved it out of the way. Equipment used- 2011 Cat D8T dozer (rental) 2011 Cat D6K dozer (originally rental, purchased during project) 2010 Cat 329EL excavator 2010 Bobcat T870 2011 Bobcat E80 excavator I'm also happy to report that we disturbed so much shit during this construction, we pissed off the local liberal hippy population enough for one of them to bitch about us in the newspaper late last year. Even made her mad enough to take a crack at construction of my house nearby. http://www.tryondailybulletin.com/2013/10/02/what-amazing-things-a-bulldozer-can-do/ (page 2 for the good stuff) Total of approximately 108,000 cubic yards of dirt moved, according to our surveyor Saved a good penny renting the equipment and doing it ourselves. Range is now 230 meters long, 85 meters wide. Some idiot ran through my fresh grass before we got a gate installed. I intentionally left one, pitiful, lonely, lopsided Oak tree near the road on top of the berm just to help the hippy cunt sleep better at night (who stopped to complain multiple times while work ensued) Had everything finished around November of last year, just now got around to posting. Will take pictures as soon as time allows of all the fresh grass, steel targets, and range building going up shortly. |

Holy hell...yeah, I remember your last thread.
All I can say is...you don't do things half way, do ya? Range looks great! |

How much did it cost to do all that yourself? Also in the article the whiny hippie said she got the state to come in, how much shit did they give you or did they just blow her off?

View Quote Rental on the 329EL for 2 months, 1 month on the D8T, fuel, pay for 3 of my guys for 2 months and the hydroseeding came up to roughly 100k, give or take a bit. Grading companies estimated 300k+, so it was worth my time Total flat area is 4.4 acres. Slightly over 5.5 acres if you include all sloped areas on grade. There is a 25m pistol range not really visible in the pics, down near the drainage area (somewhat visible in the later pics). |

That looks nice. I bet that hippy is going to be extra pissed when people start shooting guns.

Ha you guys have been busy!
I'll have to make it down sometime. By the way are you guys ever going to do tuning for the 6.2L in the raptor? Would be awesome to use my dashdaq for that too. |
|
Very nice . Glad you made a hippy cry . Now for a loudspeaker and some Slayer

Sweet Mary, it took some major funds to bankroll that. Nicely done. How much range you think you can get out of it when all is said and done? Where in NC are you located? Very nice!

View Quote Saluda, NC. Just south of Hendersonville on i26, between Asheville and the SC state line. Would like have been able to have went farther, but excavating the next ridgeline would have exposed my house (still under construction) to gunfire. Current hill that serves as the back stop is directly in line with the house, but tall enough to cover it. |

View Quote Welcome any time. If we end up doing any gas burners, it will most likely be EcoBoost. Direct injection and turbocharged is more of my forte. And, as bad as I hate to admit it, SCT has a solid product and support system for the 6.2 that would be difficult to improve on.

water the grass with hippie tears....
i'm not too far, in VA (assuming you really ARE in NC). Would LOVE to visit... Heading down to Carolina Beach later this summer - any outdoor (long) ranges near there anyone can recommend? Jon |

Soooo where in NorCack is this fine establishment?
Looks good, OP. Mad jelly. |

Removing trees and mountains, so you can shoot your guns. You sir, really know how to piss off the local liberals.
I like your style! |

Quoted: Did i read it right $100K ? I spent $2700.00 on ours, 9 bays all go out to 200yds, 4 out to 500yds. http://i.imgur.com/baUXRabl.jpg Waiting til fall to get grass started. View Quote The mountain which I so kindly destroyed even had its own name on the map. Equipment rental for the two months was 40k, give or take. Burned 31k in diesel. The D8 was sapping a consistent 15 gallons per hour with the long pushes, and we ran it 340 hours during that month alone. The remainder fed the 329 and D6. Had about 9know drain pipe, boxes, riprap, and various materials. The rest was hydroseed supplies, straw matting, and steel targets from MGM. |

If you just wanted to play with construction equipment, just say so. You don't have to go through this elaborate ruse of a shooting range. Just admit you watched too much Gold Rush and wanted to tear shit up with a D9. It's okay, we're all friends here. |

Quoted: I weep for the trees that were sacrificed for this future superfund site contaminated with lead nice job OP! View Quote I have a picture, saved in another cell phone, I need to post. It was taken by one of my workers as I was shoving a large Oak to the ground with the track hoe, off a bank over the road during this project. Ironically, hippy bitch is in the picture, driving down the road, as the tree is in midair. Glorious irony. Will have to hunt for the photo later. This is the kind of person who rode around in a little black Kia, with a cardboard sign in the back winow that read "Justice for Trayvon" during this project last year (all happened in the same time frame). No joke. Just the simple fact I caused this woman mental anguish makes my cock hard. Fucking liberals |

you sir, are my idol.
holy shit, I need to move closer... Was this a private range or are you opening up a club or something? Sorry, did not read Previous thread. |
