"sheepdog" basically just a term one group of extortionist goons uses to tell you what a favor they are doing you by protecti g you from another group of extortionists goons who would be so much worse lol at sheepdog. Plus if anything why wouldn't you want to be called a Wolfhound? For one it sounds way cooler. For two Wolfhounds actually hunt wolfs instead of just herding sheep. Because usually for the people who refer to themselves as sheepdogs, their jobs actually are to keep the sheep in line and not to hunt the wolves. |

Kit. Love the use of it, but now pissed the Tier 1 crowd took it. Yes, it's what our schoolchildren wear for PE, plus a load of other kit, er stuff... Gear is an acceptable American substitute. The only thing that bothers me when people talk about their "kit" on the internet is that I always read it in a New Zealand accent. |

"deep dive" as in, at 1700 today we will do a "deep dive" on the upcoming mission, or, at 2300 tonight I am going to "deep dive" my spouse. It's an operational term used for lots of different situations, and can be a verb or a noun.

Run.
Me shooting an ancient snubnose revolver at an informal IDPA practice: Tier 1 operator: What revolver do you run? Me: It's a Model 10, but I don't think I can get much past lope or mosey with it. Tier 1 operator: |

Platform. I don't like that word use for a rifle. A platform or weapons platform is a machine that carries multiple weapons, NOT a term for a weapon itself. A battleship, tank, and helicopter are platforms. An AR15, AK47, ect ect, are not weapons platforms. The modern weapon is a multifaceted system, hooah? It behooves you to utilize the terminology "weapons platform" because the system provides multiple means of attaching accessories that expand your deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat, hooah? This is why we utilize the term platform, hooah? This platform, comprised of multiple systems such as laser and optics allow us to engage the enemy with the maximum kinetic force within the paradigm of the Rules of Engagement, hooah. HOOAH. From it, many, many different types of rifles, carbines - and even pistols - can be built / configured, even before you talk lasers and optics (which, I would argue, turn a weapon into a weapon system. I always liked most of the acronyms we used when I was in the service. Some were funny and had good back stories.
But these days I'm really tired of the MIL-Speak permeating the civilian firearms market. Apparently the Military Industrial Complex has "infiltrated the non-combat sphere of the domestic AO" |

Quoted: Not being military, all the G-this and S-that codes for jobs/positions confuse me. MOS codes only contain a few that I know. Yeah, I'm not an operator. -Lee View Quote http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staff_(military) Unless someone has a common MOS I won't know it. It is confusing is common practice for when you ask someone what their MOS is they will tell you "1171" the numerical (alphanumeric for Army) MOS Code and I always have to say "what is that". They reply "Water Support Technician aka Water Dogs". Neither staff functions or MOS codes are "operator" lingo just regular military jargon. |

The irony being your avatar, which shows a weapons platform just as you described: multiple weapons (M-16 and shotgun) combined together. Therefore, an M-16 (or AR-15) can, actually, be a weapons platform. |

My all time favorite was "develop the situation".
That comes in handy at home: Wife: Why are you just standing there and staring at the broken lawnmower" Me: I'm about to develop this here situation. |

How about "helo" rather than "choppa"? Is that an HSLD Tier 1 operator term?

I heard it as two different stories while I was in. That was the first. The second was it came about during the planning for Operation Overlord. They were coming up with the assault plans, and they were trying to figure out who was going to go scale Pointe du Hoc. The English said, "No bloody way!" The Canadians said, "Not us, eh?" The Americans said, "What about the Rangers?" They all turned to look at Major Cleveland A. Lytle, who asked with a lisp, "Who, uth?" |
