Stingrays (and other devices) have been around for about as long as cell phones. Lots of legal precedence as to their legality. Oh, and the Obama admin has never advised us on anything.

The Eleventh circuit court just ruled warrantless phone tracking is illegal.
The blue liners who consider warped agglomerations of premodern interpretations for ancient tech like pen registers to apply to modern technology will keep on trucking anyway. |

What this is news to you guys ?
SOP over here in the Netherlands I'm afraid, have seen tons of cases come by when cell phones were rare (early 1990's) they simply tapped ALL the cell phones in the country to find out what Phone some guy was using. yay war on drugs at least it was all for a good cause because were are at last drug free  take that freedom.

There are call tower mapping apps (android for sure) that let you know where your cell towers are. If you pay attention you may be able to see a stingray in action.
