It gets really good! I watched the first season and pretty much abandoned it for a couple months only to come back and get hooked.

AMC has done better (Breaking Bad) and Worse (Walking Dead)
I feel like its on par with "Hell on Wheels" because it constantly builds to a plateau. Good show, though. Looking forward to the current (final) season hitting netflix. |

I enjoy it. It was hard to get started on, but I kept hearing over and over how it was such a great show so I stuck with it through the first several episodes and once you start learning the characters it gets better. It never really gets "exciting", but it's entertaining enough for me.
I've also heard that they do a very good job of keeping realistic to the time period. Don't know if that's actually true or not, but it's interesting to me, as a younger dude who wasn't alive back then, to see how things were with the drinking/smoking/treatment of women and minorities.

Because it's fairly popular, I felt like I was suppose to like it and I kept trying to like it, but after about 4 episodes I gave up and I moved on.

I tried, but couldn't care about it.
The show has no discernible over arcing storyline. It just seems to go in whatever direction will develop the most tension and drama for the characters. Like a soap opera but with better acting. |

Unless you're interested in a time where gender roles were more apparent and people were sexist assholes, its not a show worth watching. Its very accurate for the time period it portrays. I know a few people who consider Don Draper their idol and it sickens me.
Also, snoooooooresville. The entire appear escapes me. Watched the first 3 seasons out of boredom. Too many other good shows to watch before that shit. It probably appeals to the 40+ crowd aka people who actually experienced that time period somewhat. |

I have posted plenty of nitpicky comments about the show over the years, but overall I really enjoyed it.
During the early episodes of Season 6, I just lost interest and stopped watching completely. Some day I will watch the rest of season 6 and season 7 just so I can know what happened. |
