Very good advice. Some people hate to realize how old they are becoming.

Best wishes to your mom for a speedy recovery. Being in pain and unable to do simple things isn't just an elderly problem, though. "Slowing down" is wise, but maybe not what she needs to hear from you at the moment. Anyway, stay safe on your trips to Manhattan.

I preach it my mother daily. I nicknamed her Grace several years ago because she is so damn clumsy. My greatest fear is going to check on her and she will be laying somewhere, broke something, and could not get to help.

Prayers to you and you mother.

Yeah, they won't listen.

I had to pull my 90 year old grandmother out of a fire in her yard when her hip snapped doing yard work.

Had to put out the fire, get her stabilized ( way before 911 ) , wait on the ambulance, and get her flown out to the MUSC , Charleston burn center.

My elderly mom fell 3 times in as many years from the ice, breaking her arms each time before she said goodbye to Alaska and moved to the Puget Sound area.

Not as bad as breaking a hip and getting that replaced, but the first fall happened right on the first day of my vacation, which I had to cancel to shuttle her back and forth to the hospital all week.

Sorry to hear that.  Tough injury for an 80 year old person to quickly recover from.  Glad she's doing okay now.  She's lucky to have a good son.

And you're right, the technology is amazing. Better that she broke it here than in Holland. Or Sweden. Or whatever ice-covered country of irrelevance that y'all hail from.

Here's to a speedy convalescence!

Had terrible burns which required surgery and skin grafts, somehow she'd also hit her head, and they had to relieve pressure by drilling. A few hours later she was sitting up talking.

Within a month she was walking with a walker and a few months later with a cane. She lived another 10 years, still worked in her gardens, ( with our lending a hand to be there ).

Prayers for your mom to get better.  Not being a smart aleck at just offering up information I have been told.  A lot of time older women break their hip and then fall.  Don't know if your mom fits this category or not.  Just may add some enlightenment to the situation.  Got a mom that uses a walker who thinks she can still climb a ladder.  When I try assist her it seems to only make matters worse.  Good luck man.

I hope she's better soon.  My mother had her hip replaced (by choice) about a year ago and is now 100%.
