Looking at this pack, http://lbtinc.com/bags-backpacks-packs/backpacks/mortar-pack.html

I noted that it had this "Berry Compliant" while not earth shattering information, it was still interesting (sorta) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berry_Amendment

I am sure that they are great packs and will do the jobs intended, they just aren't intended to be sold to the public other than via surplus sales.

I picked one up during their New Years Sale. Paid $100 for it, Definatel worth $100 not anymore than that though.

It is a $200-$300 pack that they set a high MSRP on and sell over-runs/extra inventory off at extremely discounted pricing.

You guys must not have read the part about how it packs itself and then carries itself for you. 550 is a small price to pay for features like that

OP...do you even operate bro?

Ha!  Seriously though, that's way overpriced.  However, the LBT 3 day pack that I picked up on their valentine's day sale for $49.99 was priced just right!

You'd be a tard to buy them at those prices. They go on sale and could be had for cheap.

LA Police Gear sells a copy for just over $50. Thanks to GD, I picked up the LBT Ruck for $100.

Any pack will suffice for a lowly suburbanite like myself, but the LBT's stitching seems much more durable.

LBT on the left.   LAPG on the right.

9.9 times out of 10, you get what you pay for.

But I don't see where that pack is any better than a Maxpedition or similar.

that's because you haven't had to hump an 80lb load with a pack with a shitty suspension and padding setup made by the lowest bidder.

I've never regretted what I spent on my Kifaru EMR. Not once.

People want to feel like soldiers, and while a well made top loading non-tactical pack might last longer, carry better, and be superior in almost all aspects... It's not tacticool and doesn't have camo fabrics available.

Fuck that noise. My RAID II has been going strong for almost 4+ years now. 170 bucks.

Couple mesh pouches from kifaru on the inside and 1 or 2 7-channel pouches from esstac on the front and its perfect. Been beat around the back of 7tons, airplanes, had a gallon jug of CLP spilled on it, dropped thrown and kicked all over the place. Some simple green(for the oil smell) a little bit of detergent and an industrial washing machine, and it looks new. I need to replace a few of the buckles because they've been stepped on or broken but it's held up exceptionally well.

Raids and Raid IIs are good packs and highly customizable.  I have four of them(different colors) and three have done tax free vacations with me.  The original Raid isn't very good with weight when worn over armor, but using a sternum strap helps hold it in place.  Two of my four(one Raid and one Raid II) need to go back for some sewing.

Yeah but all my north face gear has held up pretty well.  I'm a low speed high drag type so that might not mean anything though.
