If you had to choose between a revolver or 1911 for your CCW, which do you choose?
I don't give a crap about manufacturer, round count, etc. Pick one. I would pick a S&W 686+ |

I've carried both at one point or another. Either can serve.
I'll take the 1911. But I'd prefer something lighter and higher capacity. |

Well, figure I will put in my reasoning for choice of revolver.
I grew up in snake country. Never had snake shot work well in an auto of any make. So, field carry was always a revolver. But, that really doesn't count as CCW. It was what I was comfortable with until age 16 when I pleaded with my father to please, please, please let me get an auto pistol like you had in the army. I still find myself just satisfied with the simple revolver. But, I am very rural area, so it makes total sense to me where a lot of you it would not work for. |

The only revolver I have is a N frame Smith, and it's just too big to conceal except during winter. My EDC is usually a 1911 or Sig 2022.

My two carry pieces are a Colt Combat Elite and a S&W 438.
I prefer the Colt. |

Voted 1911.
Honestly, I carry both at the same time. The 1911 IWB and the S&W 642 in a pocket holster as a back up. |

1911.
But I'm a skinny bastage, so a thin gun is easier to conceal for me. Even at 6'0" and 150lb, I've managed (at IDPA matches, because I don't live in one of the "good" counties in CA) to hide my full-size 1911 with an IWB holster under a semi-loose overshirt. Two extra mags, too. Had to use a flush-fitting magazine in the pistol, though, because the length of the grip was just getting to the point where it was almost peeking into the shirt and making a corner outboard of my kidney. Still 7+1 with 2x8rd reloads isn't bad, especially since the only JHP I have for the thing are 230gr standard-pressure HST. |

I made that choice a long time ago. The only revolver I own is a Vaquero, love it but it doesn't conceal well.

sorry. rather have six sure bangs then seven or eight maybes.
also, I'm left handed. yeah, I know, ambi safety. but then I have a safety lever on the outside which can be pushed off when I'm getting in or out of the truck and it contacts the seat or the door. |

This is like asking which leg you want cut off.
But, I'd carry my LW Commander over my GP100 |

As much as I love revolvers, and carry one on occasion, my 1911s are much better for this purpose.

The number of times my revolver has failed to go bang can be counted on one hand. 1911? Not so much.

[#36]
3" Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp model
3" S&W 686 with 7 shot cylinder. Either one is a great choice. |

My 'EDC' (can't carry at work, since it's public property and all ) is a full size 1911. The only times I've had malfunctions with it have been after putting 1000+ rounds through it without cleaning, or when I've screwed up my reloads.

A well done 1911 should be plenty reliable.
1911 is faster to reload 1911 reloads are easier to conceal 1911 has a slimmer profile (compared to a full size revolver) I'll take the 1911 in this case. |

Your choice of of a 686+ is a good one.
My daily carry is a 1911 and a S&W 642. I do sometimes pack a S&W M66, and a S&W M29 Mountain Gun with .44 specials. But to answer your question, if I had to choose between all of that, a full sized 1911 would be it. And my favorite full size 1911 right now is my Ruger SR1911. Other than the grips and Wilson magazines, it is bone stock and perfect. |

Semi. However, in the woods, I prefer a 44 Mag. We got bear and mountain lion out here

I wonder how many people who voted for the 1911 have ever tried to CCW one.
If I only have those two choices I'll take a Centennial and a spare speedloader. |
