Letter to the editor of the Herald here in Snohomish County in Washington State. http://www.heraldnet.com/Stories/01/4/11/13618542.cfm CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS Are they worth the sacrifices we make? We had all better take a reality check concerning the safety of children in our schools. I am a firm believer in our country's Constitution. It protects our individual rights and freedoms. But, if it doesn't guarantee protection of our children's lives from the insane actions of some, it is worthless. Psychotic youth who gun down our children present a new form of tyranny. Yet, their rights are protected under the Constitution. As dearly as we hold constitutional principles, perhaps they are outdated. Perhaps we have become unfit to be under the Constitution's influence. Some will say that a people who forfeit their freedom for security deserve neither. A society inept in its ability and desire to guarantee the safety of its children's lives also deserves neither, and will eventually lose both. I am willing to forfeit all of my Constitutional rights. If pornography and cinematic violence were eradicated, I would gladly sacrifice my right to offer my opinions as I do now. Americans appear to be so worried about their rights: gay rights, abortion rights, gun rights. To hell with all of our rights if we continue on this descent towards decay while our kids are getting gunned down. DANIEL PALMER Lynnwood

God Damn Herald is such a Liberal paper.... Remember the story of the Chicken Egg building that burned down in the Arlington Marysville area and had ATF investigating it? Cuz they were in the area they also busted a bunch of people who bought cigarettes from an Indian Reservation trailer near the fire location. I guess the tax stamps are an easy ticket. Clearfire are you in the north snohomish county area? There is a brand new gun range in Arlington I am going to check out this week, so far all I know is that they have to have all firearms in cases to let you in. Don't know whether I can shoot my pre-ban AR there or not. Will report my findings. [rail]Railgun....

Try to imagine monarchy jailing subjects for maintaining the divine right of Kings! Or Christianity damning a believer for arguing that Jesus Christ was the Son of God! This last, perhaps, has been done: anything is possible in that direction. But under democracy the remotest and most fantastic possibility is a common-place of every day.

I'll make a deal with DANIEL PALMER. If you revoke your right of free speech, I will only put 99 rounds in my Beta C mag instead of the 100 I'm legally allowed. We got a deal? John[heavy]

NOT! Anyone who has this man's attitude does not believe in our Constitution.
As dearly as we hold constitutional principles, perhaps they are outdated.

The principles held forth in the Constitution will NEVER become outdated if we are to remain free and the greatest country in the world.
Perhaps we have become unfit to be under the Constitution's influence.

Speak for yourself sir. If you feel unfit to be under the Constitution then perhaps YOU have not been doing YOUR fair share. Freedom is the most valuable thing we have in this country-it allows us to have everything else that we enjoy and we have to WORK to preserve it if we are to deserve it.
Some will say that a people who forfeit their freedom for security deserve neither.

Very true. There is a common misconception that liberals have about Socialist Utopian societies in which they believe that by relinquishing all control to the govt everything will be just peachy. Take a look at any Socialist country existing today or already deceased and you will see societal ills FAR worse than anything we have here in the USA.
I am willing to forfeit all of my Constitutional rights. If pornography and cinematic violence were eradicated, I would gladly sacrifice my right to offer my opinions as I do now.

Go ahead and give up your rights but realize that the pornography and cinematic violence you speak of will NOT go away especially if you give up your right to offer opinions as you do now. These societal ills are the result of a couple generations of parents who were not. They were too wrapped up in "doing their own thing" to teach their children right from wrong and the value of our freedom. They were created by people who have raped our Constitution and done nothing to protect it while it protected them.
Americans appear to be so worried about their rights: gay rights, abortion rights, gun rights.

TRUE Americans ARE worried about their rights. It is just too bad that they are not united to protect Constitutional rights instead of all these splinter groups. Remember-United we stand-Divided we fall. this guy is a wing nut, and would do well to take a flying leap into the Commie country of his choice. But let me play devils advocate for a minute. he makes the statement... "As dearly as we hold constitutional principles, perhaps they are outdated. Perhaps we have become unfit to be under the Constitution's influence." Now, compare that statement with that of John Adams, who knew a thing or two about the limitations of our Constitution. "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." -- John Adams AS we have dropped into the moral abyss as a nation, we have seen greater incidence of hideous, amoral, anti-social acts. what Adams was saying is that teh Constitution was designed for a people that CONTROLLED THEMSELVES. today, we live in a generation that thinks "If the law doesn't say I CAN'T do it, then I'm going for it" and throws civility and decency to the wind. Since no law, or statute, or Constitution can be constructed that will cover EVERY anti-social activity that people might dream up and perpetrate, it is INDEED true that our Constitution is inadequate to a generation unwilling to show self-restraint, as ours is. THIS is why I fight against this notion that liberty can be sustained without a Heavenly =-based morality. I leave you with the words of Abigail Adams... "A patriot without religion in my estimation is as great a paradox as an honest Man without the fear of God. Is it possible that he whom no moral obligations bind, can have any real Good Will towards Men? Can he be a patriot who, by openly vicious conduct, is undermining the very bonds of Society? . . . . The Scriptures tell us "righteousness exalteth a Nation." ----- from a letter by Abigail Adams, wife of the 2nd President and Mother of the 6th President of the United States, written in November, 1775, to her friend Mercy Warren.

If the Founding Fathers and the millions of servicemen buried in Arlington and other cemeteries around the world saw this, I'm sure they would all turn over in their graves.....

If you ask me, perhapsh there should be but one empire of the world. Create a New Panjea of polatics by uniting the entire world under one leader. You could completly eliminate world hunger, diminish wars that have gone on for years only becuase some guys grandfather fought the war and we could have peace. Money spent on war could then be used to advane science and medacine. Crime could be cut and we could still have our rights if there was a smart man running things. Democracy allow people who are uneducated to lead countries. It is a good plan in theory, but so is comunisim.

If you have a good guy running it!yea right! look at all the kings and dictators throughout history how many good ones for all the bad ones? no,a one world order with one man in charge is not the answer. but,hey someday you might see it happen,a charismatic leader will appear and take over, it will last for 7 years and it will be the worst 7 years in the history of mankind and then armageddon

There is a way to have a good leader though. A chineese idea called emperor training. Pick a few smart kids while youg and teach them to be leaders.
