FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
Spent like an hour now, and just achieved my highest score in a couple of minutes by going in a clock wise pattern over and over! |
|
|
Have done it twice in the past few days, second time was pure luck.
ETA: I used a strat similar to Brass'. |
|
It's addicting even after you win once.
What drives me nuts is when you have 1024 block and a half clear screen, then luck changes and you are stuck and lose before you know it. |
|
First try score 6848, highest tile 512.

I don't want to admit how much time I wasted on that game. It's addicting.

Ugh...so close on the second try.
1024, with score of 15560. I'll have to come back to it... |

Whats the best strategy? I try only pressing the down and side arrows but I only get to around 3,500 points and lose

Cool article about the game with some different versions.
http://www.cityam.com/blog/1395158848/five-new-versions-puzzle-game-2048-you-have-try This version is insane. http://doge2048.com/ So is this one. http://www.csie.ntu.edu.tw/~b01902112/9007199254740992/#_= |

im fucking retarded
this whole time I'm trying to get 4 tiles in a row that read 2048 not one tile that adds up to 2048 |

I CAN'T FUCKING STOP.....SWEET BABY JESUS IT HAS SUCKED ME IN

Now I understand why my mom always said no video games until homework was done........

Here is pretty much the way I look at it. 1 or 2 steps "lookahead" math, with default placement along bottom of values stacked on the bottom. It does require a bit of LUCK in addition to skill, sometimes you just end up screwed, especially once you have the 1024 block and two rows of values on the bottom. I do the same thing, but with the highest value at bottom left, that's how I'm used to reading base 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6W9aoMK4zc View Quote Already got my High Score of 3052 just by keeping my biggest number in the bottom right and locking it in. |

It was going to freeze that night and I told her to leave her wipers pointed up (older car where the wipers hid when off). She couldn't do it because she would wait until the wipers were pointed up and then turn them off only to see them return to bottom. Glad I didn't marry that one. |

I got to 2048, once. Never again. And 4096? Not before carpal tunnel sets in! 8192? Can it be done? Don't know. /grrr/ |
|
Ok, I'm going insane.
I could pull out a win pretty often, now I started out today looking for 8192, and I haven't even gotten 2048 in 2 hours. |
|
Thanks for the tips!
I'm getting stuck with a pyramid in the middle today. Unsure how I've lost it, the first two days went smooth and I won, then I tried these new strategies and am sucking at it. |

More tips for those who can't win with the tips in the post above:
Tip 1: NEVER put a 2 at in your "bank" (bottom row for me) unless it is in the least significant position. To avoid a 2, shift left before dropping a merge. Tip 2: Don't merge tiles on every chance you get! Think ahead a few steps to decide what number you want there, and only combine those you need. With a bit of planning, you can avoid collapsing all of your pairs. Tip 3: In those occasions when it stacks exactly what you don't want near the top, Assume a 2 will be the next tile. 4's seem to come about every 4th or 5th tile, so hoping for a 4 will get you stuck in far more often than hoping for a two. Tip 4: Keep most all play with at least 4 squares of working area. Preferably 7 squares of work area. PLAN AHEAD. When this working area shrinks, you are going to lose (see tip 2) Tip 5: Sometimes the board is flat out against you. If you have a horked board ('bank' row FUBARed from having to go wrong direction) before 1024 block, just start over. Both I and my son can regularly win and get to 4096 20% of the time following the rules above and the tips here. Tried a lot for the 8192, but that's just a LOT of time and I've always made an error. The higher you go, the less forgiving of errors the board is, after halfway to 4096, no errors are permitted. Getting 2048 once is lucky. Getting it 50% of the time means you have a solid algorithm/strategy. |

Made 4096 a few times, failed at 8192
Anybody succeed on 8192 yet? Also, there's an installable version on PortableApps that has several options for the game, including watching an AI play it or give you hints. Another version has an undo for when you double tap a key, etc. 2048 - 6 Versions in one install - PortableApps.com |

Made 4096 a few times, failed at 8192 Anybody succeed on 8192 yet? View Quote I got a board with one 4096, one 2048, and a couple of 512s, but I got lazy and started to rush. I ended up blocking a row accidentally, and couldn't shift the two 512s into a 1024, as my only "out" was to move the tiles down, which stuck a "2" in my top row. An 8192 seems like it will require a nearly-perfect game, and I just don't have the interest to try. |

fuck you
the 'don't use "up" unless you really need to does help increase your score. eta so far 7572 is the highest.... eta2 now at 12560 damn you! I quit... 13305 bed time |
|
49,620 is my highest score. I made 4096 twice but didn't get much beyond that.
