I think Poland will get mighty froggy if Russia pushes to the Dnieper

I think we'll actually see a real test of Article 5 and the European commitment to stability in the next presidency. Or more scary, towards the end of Obama's term. Putin know's he'll do nothing unless there's a grave threat to the alliance. So incremental, "special war", could seriously become a reality for the Baltics.

Russia has learned the Nazi's lessons and is trying to create chaos behind the lines across a broad front...there's and ours.

Their information operations machine is impressive and good.

We've got an HBCT going to Poland and we've got units going to do exercises throughout the NATO Eastern European countries.

We're finally getting Missile Defense systems in Poland.  We should soon be in a good position to counter attack and Russian incursion.

That is if they ever get the balls to do anything, but my guess is that they'll take their ball and go home just like they did when they gave up their Soviet empire.

We could have taken them in the 80's and we could definitely take them today. They're all talk. They gave up an empire without a single battle.

I was raised to expect a war with them only to find out they were nothing more than surrender monkeys. Real big disappointment, because I really did expect this epic war between two polar societies, good vs evil, nothing less than the survival of our nation at stake, and then the Wall came down and the Soviets folded like a cheap suit.

That's nice, but we'll be in that fight and doing the bulk of it should it come.

A war against proper soldiers in uniform, taking territory, advancing against an evil regime until we raise our flag over Red  Square as F-22's scream overhead.

Vice is unfortunately the only ones doing any decent reporting out of the area.

The rest of the mass media I guess got the memo from Obama to avoid talking about so as not to make him look bad.

I've always liked his stuff.  The first thing I saw from him I think was the piece he did about the North Korean labor camps in Russia.  At the time, I don't think he was an actual Vice employee - he was kinda doing his own thing and they contracted with him or something.

Based on his work during the Euromaidan protests and the early part of the Russian/Ukrainian War, I'm surprised he hasn't been killed off yet. I'm sure the FSB is closely monitoring his movements as much as they can.

Ukrainian drone footage 2 days ago showed 50+ tanks staged in Luhansk along with BMPs and Kamazes. They had been fairly piecemeal but it's possible Putin thinks he needs to go for broke and is building up for it. The more plausable need for a huge reserve, they're throwing in ad hoc outfits formed amongst them to spread the losses out. Of course this is silly, everyone knows who is actually fighting there.

Russians are starting to hurt for money. The line to get back across the border with Western goods at Narva wasn't very long, nothing like it was, and there aren't the usual number of tourists in Tallinn. They tried to convince them all to go to Crimea but down there I've read nothing but complaints of how the tourist industry is effectively dead.

As I've said though,Putin can't back down and show weakness...so what? No idea,I just keep praying he caught Hugo Chavez's ass cancer.

I'm not really concerned that much about "little green men" appearing in Estonia; I think the most likely point of friction in the Baltics is going to try for social unrest in Latvia. At any rate, I'll be back in the US until at least October so I'll probably be wrong and miss the reoccupation anyway

They probably regret the hell out of not killing him.

Their defense ministry says that tanks and artillery in the  Baltics is a grave provocation that must be countered and they're rabbling about overwhelming the ABM shield, deploying more Iskanders to Kaliningrad etc. It'll be more difficult for them to go on vacation to Donbass from the Polish and Lithuanian borders...

Dr. Phillip Karber (Potomac Foundation) has traveled to Ukraine and visited with Ukrainian troops on the front lines to gain a better understanding of Russia's tactics in this war. I previously posted another video from a presentation he made for the CSIS, but this one is a bit newer with more info. It is quite fascinating stuff to hear. Even more fascinating is the fact that a video containing information about such a vitally important world topic only has 209 total views. Unreal. If Phillip Karber was just some schmuck doing something stupid, that video would have probably gone viral. Why can so few people be interested in what has become the biggest security threat to NATO since the Cold War? This is important shit! Are people just that uninterested in major world events? Or are they more scared about confronting and contemplating the possibilities?

And here he is again during a May-June visit to the front highlighting how the Minsk Agreement is being totally ignored by the separatists and their Russian cohorts:

The President sets the narrative, and he has completely failed regarding this one. The Russian threat to Ukraine represents an old American dynamic to people like Obama, and we know what he thinks of that America. Nothing is going to change on our end until that incompetent leftist is out of the WH....of course by then it will be too late.

Obama isn't the only incompetent piece of shit we've had to endure as POTUS. Remember Jimmy Carter? He set us back a great deal as well in terms of the economy, how the world perceived us as well as our overall military strength. The guy was a disaster. I'm sure many people back then were claiming we'd never recover from the damage he did to this country. Not only did we survive, but the decade that followed was one of the greatest periods for American prosperity and pride in our national history!

Obama is certainly very bad in a number of ways. But I'm not going to ignore a serious threat developing abroad just because we happen to have someone I detest in the Oval Office at present. Obama is a lame duck president with less than 2 years remaining in office with a GOP controlled House and Senate to contend with. He has inflicted about as much damage as he's going to be able to do and he's soon going to be out of the picture. Putin OTOH, will likely remain in the mix for many years to come and will remain a geopolitical (and potentially military) foe. When you have a country that poses as significant a threat as Russia poses with a leader behaving in the manner Putin's behaving, anyone with a brain is going to be keeping a close eye on what he is doing, regardless of who presently occupies the White House.

The President sets the narrative, and he has completely failed regarding this one. The Russian threat to Ukraine represents an old American dynamic to people like Obama, and we know what he thinks of that America. Nothing is going to change on our end until that incompetent leftist is out of the WH....of course by then it will be too late.

C'mon.... you guys have been so sure that the POS cannot do any long term damage to the US and Putin is the only problem.   Suddenl so pessimist?

Indeed!   However, how can we do anything abroad when we have a critter stabbing us in the back at any opportunity it has?

Jimmy Carter was really, bad.  I agree.   However, did he had the same bad intentions the critter has?   Was Carter deliberately stabbing us in the back?

I agree that Zero makes Carter look good (most here would probably say that).  That said, I'm with CH.  In a couple of years, Mr. Lame Duck will be gone, leaving a trail of shit behind him.  If we're lucky, the Czarina won't replace him.

But no matter who wins the next election, Russia isn't going anywhere.  Neither is Putin, for the forseeable future.

@sivkai There are no Russian forces in Ukraine. Nobody has shown any credible evidence. If there were, they would have been in Kiev long ago

So?

Russian President Vladimir Putin is not done in eastern Ukraine, NATO's top commander said on Thursday, cautioning that Russia has been building up supplies on its border with Ukraine and keeping its military options open.

U.S. General Philip Breedlove, NATO's supreme allied commander, said the border between Ukraine and Russia was "wide open," allowing free movement of equipment and supplies.

So he has until 2017 to accomplish his land grab.

When Obama leaves office, Putin isn't going to have as much flexibility after the election.
