It's inefficient from both a cost stand point and strategic one to arm and train indigenous personnel to fight. The better solution would be to allow nations to contract with Private Military Corporations (PMCs) with financial backing from allies to do so. Obviously, there is a demand for such services by multiple nations and if the legal restraints were removed there would certainly be enough capital available to form large PMCs capable of turning the tide in places like the Ukraine and Iraq particularly if said companies were allowed to purchase and transport abroad high tech western weapons. The number of combat experienced veterans is high enough now that you could certainly tap a lot of experienced operators provided the pay was attractive enough.
Think about how clean it would be for a PMC to show-up with their own top notch equipment, people, and logistics to come in and effect the outcome then just leave when the job was done. No more worries about training future terrorists or turning over weapons that end up in the hands of the enemy. No more senseless loss of life as conflicts are prolonged and inexperienced cannon fodder are mowed down. A far less likely chance of war crimes as well. |

View Quote PMCs are typically not cost effective (Western ones) for large scale conflict use. They are mostly supplemental and could be used as a shock force or specialist unit. The radical changes needed to the system (something like using inmates for example) are most likely not in the cards at this time. |

This conflict saved Putin's ass. The oil and gas price was going to take a dive due to US domestic output and the Saudi response either way. By standing up to the West he got a deal with China and a distraction away from an economic situation that was coming down the pipe anyway plus some choice clay. They shot down a civilian airliner and then created the most laughable "evidence" to support their denials and counter accusations. They pay people LIKE you to obfuscate these facts on the internet. These things are undeniable. They are also typically oafish and clumsy, like most things Russian. |

You could replace "Obama" with "Bush" and could probably find literally the same quotes over there during that period. |

“On the morning of April 7th, a U.S. RC-135U flying a routine route in international airspace was intercepted by a Russian Su-27 Flanker in an unsafe and unprofessional manner,” said Pentagon spokeswoman Eileen M. Lainez.
“The United States is raising this incident with Russia in the appropriate diplomatic and official channels,” she said in a statement. A defense official said the Russian fighter jet flew within 20 feet of the unarmed reconnaissance jet in what the official called a “reckless” encounter that endangered the lives of the RC-135 crew.
