I think this bit about it being a Ukrainian Buk in seperatist hands - as opposed to a Russian Buk - is quite fascinating in light of one of how one of the Russian balls tossed had been the claim they knew there was a Ukrainian Buk in separatist territory. They were quite tight lipped about how they knew this, but were trying heavily to imply it was some Ukrainian attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of the West and were really trying to get a Western intelligence agency to admit that was a possibility. Well, it all makes a lot more sense now. Of course the Russians would know it was a Ukrainian Buk, if they (or their agents) were the ones who controlled it. |

Looks like Ukraine will be paying 4.5 billion PLUS the cost of the next 5 months of gas to help rebuild the glorious people's independent socialist republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.
But, more importantly, and as I noted a few weeks back, it's over for now. Deals will be signed, sanctions will be dropped, billions will trade hands. I know it's unsatisfying, to have a war end (pause?) like this, rather than a decisive finish, but Ukraine is probably eager to not freeze and starve over the winter, Russia is eager to have the sanctions dropped, and the EU doesn't give more than the appearance of a fuck as long as the gas flows. |

At the time (mid-July), Russia was only deploying small teams, SPETsNAZ, and GRU. The evidence that it was Russia is pretty damning. |

They killed more civilians than anyone else. They (UA) didn't have the numbers to go into rebel held cities, so they blasted them with artillery, mortars and Su25's |
