I think I am. The R51 looks like its damn near identical in size and weight to the Shield but its oh so much more rounder and smoother. so far The Firearms Blog is the only write up I have found. Any others out there yet? Supposed to be in stores on 2/1. Sorry Glock. I am a fan boy but .380?!? What were you thinking? |
I want to get my hands on one... but I still may just order one of the damned things when they show up on the market. |
I am going to get the G42 just because. Then I will wait till 2015 until Glock redesigns the G42 and get the new revision as well.
I'm going to get one after graduation, unless Lone Wolf makes a 9x18 Mak barrel for the G42.

Meh
1. The days of metal guns for practical CCW are for the most part long gone 2. The R51 is more complicated than the Shield or Glock and most likely will be more finicky. In fact, the review I saw, the host described the pistol as being "reliable with minimal problems". Honestly, I can think of a lot of girls I know who are recoil shy and the Glock 42 would probably be a great gun for them. |
Neither. I'm looking around for one of those Indian made titanium Webley copies in .32 for $20,000.

No, I know the weight is almost identical cause of the aluminum frame. Where I'm going with that is things like polymer frames with a steel slide just seem to be more forgiving in terms of the tolerances of the handguns, polymer frame is of course more wear resistance, and then also the polymer wonders just seem to usually be simpler in terms of parts (example R51 lacks a captive recoil spring). I definitely am looking forward to commercial feedback of the R51 and most likely it will be a good gun, but also most likely it will be more finicky reliability wise given it's design and the promotional feedback of "minimal problems" instead of no malfunctions. Walther PPS FTW
The Remington does look nice though. I just don't want to be part of the test pool. I'll wait a year & see how it did. The Glock will sell well and Glock will consider it a success despite our disappointment that it's not a 9mm. |

I'm on the top of the waiting list for the R51 at my dealer. He was at some shows last week and the distributors told him mid March for availability.

I'm sold on the R51. Looks like a great little pistol at a great price.

I have a Shield
I have a XDS 45 I told my LGS to call me when they get an R51 cause I will buy it I have no interest at all in a G 42 I like smaller carry guns, but not in 380 |
I have the Shield and used to like it, shot it recently and my M&P trigger hate came back. Plan to sell it and get the R51 or something else. Selling my XDS 9 & 45 when those come back from Sprinfield also. Cleaning house as it were.

none I'll keep my Kahr MK9 elite, and wait for glock to release a 9mm version. I don't like the shield because of the safety, and the R51 is something I would have to handle and shoot before I even considered buying one.
I really like the idea of the R51, but I will wait and see. I also really liked the idea of the Kimber Solo...but it seems like a lot of people had problems with them.

All three are not appealing to me. The Shield is too big for all around pocket carry. The R51 is just weird looking and we all know the 42 should have been a 9.
Ill stay with my PM9 for now. |

Glock .380 - I have zero interest in . I have 380 backups already
M&P shield - shot this quite a bit , really wanted to like it , but alas I cannot deal with the odd placement of the safety ...it's funny how many people give Springfield crap over grip safety and think the shield is ok R-51 is the only item thus far coming out of this shot show that I plan to shell out my hard earned cash for |

Already have a Remington Model 51 pistol in 380.
What's not to like? |
I could buy a Glock 42 OR I could slam my dick in the door.
I stand by my choice, excuse me while I drive myself to the ER. |
I was going to go for an XDS9, but I will wait to see how the R51 turns out.
I really want to fly to Austria, corner Gaston, and then berate and bemoan him about why he made the PERFECT single stack 9mm pistol that we've all been clamoring for ... and then chambered it in .380.

View Quote right here my wife wants a small'ish pistol she can shoot comfortably I'd rather it in 9mm - she's more than happy it's in .380 - something she already shoots (but hates because she has a LCP) |

Quoted: How many handguns a year does (can) Remington manufacture? View Quote On topic... I already have a CM9. The R51 looks cool, has a very promising action and promises one more round, but I like the thought of polymer and stainless so that I can carry the hell out of it without finish wear annoying me. I'm also disappointed because I was hoping that the G42 would replace my P3AT, but not if it's virtually identical in size to the CM9. |

I know the LCP is rough. For small guns, the G26 and J-frame are generally pretty mild, depending on ammo. |
