I grew up in LR and my mom lived there until this year. This is pretty funny, but I usually find the problem is the old folks playing in the street, not the kids.
ETA Most people won't give a shit. And they'll get all sorts of letters threatening to sue them. If you don't keep your driveway pressure washed, they send a letter threatening litigation within 30 days. |

LOL @ the people who think they own the street. either the HOA does, in which case, it is completely justified in making its own rules OR the city does, in which case, the HOA probably ISNT justified in banning it outright (though they may still attempt to enforce fines).

Streets are for driving.
Pets and kids in the street tend to get hit by cars more often then kids and pets in the park. I'm failing to see the problem with the rules. |

Knowing Lakewood Ranch, since I live in the area, this does not surprise me.
The Ranch is full of retirees and soccer mom's that live well beyond their means. The housing market crash's epicenter could be pinpointed there. The greatest increases in in the country were in LWR. That was followed by the largest home devaluation in the country. You could not pay me enough money to live or work in that neighborhood. Lots of old people that had nothing better to do than attend an HOA meeting to restrict the actions of minors. Fortunately, I can't see how that rule will be enforceable. They won't be able to fine kids or their parents for playing. |
|
Usually I think HOAs make up some pretty goddamn stupid rules, but this one? Eh mixed feelings. If it's a high traffic/high speed road (ie 30 or higher) road, then yea kids should not be out in the road. But if it's just a cul-de-sac, meh, let the kids have their fun.

My kids (and all the other neighborhood kids) play in our cul-de-sac every day. If cars come down to the end of the street where the kids are playing, they go slow, if they don't go slow we yell at them (or worse - one of my neighbors threw a trash can at a car of teenagers speeding up and down our cul-de-sac. I don't necessarilly condone that kind of behavior (the speeding or the trashcan throwing) but it does tend to keep our street safe).
Don't like it, don't drive on our fucking street. Here in Vegas, if you don't want to live in the hood or in the 50 year old parts of town, you will be dealing with an HOA. |

Quoted: Why on earth would you want your kids to play in the street? View Quote Christ...I grew up playing touch football, softball and street hockey in the street in front of my house. There were about 10 of us that lived on both sides of our street in our block. Our parents could keep an eye on us just by looking out the living room window. The concrete slab joints made great boundaries and goal lines. There's a big difference between a residential neighborhood street and a 4 lane high-traffic street in a commercial area. |

When Obama comes and takes your guns are you going to roll over and accept it because of "a provision requiring acceptance of any future rules passed"? I would hope not. Yet you happily accept un-necessary and unreasonable governance and interference in the everyday life of children. Kids play - it's what they do - and you are OK with others regulating against it. This isn't government doing it. It's some overzealous mini-Hitlers on a HOA. Children playing is not an unreasonable thing to expect in a residential neighbourhood, I'm sure you will agree. This is an unreasonable change to an otherwise accepted agreement. That doesn't mean you have to accept it. You can disagree and overturn it or disobey and challenge it. Banning children from playing together in the street is ridiculous. |
