So like a dumbass, i waited to long to try and join the Marines. Recruiter says i am to old, and technically 1" to tall, but the age is a
"NO". So my 2nd choice would be the Army. I am currently looking into the Army. Can we have a discussion on Army Vs. Marines as far as what some of the major differences are between the two? Thanks. |

Since the Marines won't take you, I guess you'll have to settle for being all you *can* be.

With all of the downsizing going on, why should they go through the trouble of getting you a waiver if you're too old and too tall?
USMC limit is 28yo, Army limit is 35yo on the day you ship. From who I have dealt with professionally, the USMC is a cult and the (POG half of the) Army the whiny bitches club. Kharn |

Army life is generally more relaxed than the Marines.
Marines have jets and funny hats. |

Why are marines on ships ?...... Because sheep would be too obvious.

The Army is a military service. The Marine Corps is a military culture.

How can you be too tall? David Robinson was 6'10" View Quote 1st of all David Robinson was a class act. This is not a jab at him in any way shape or form. He was also a recruiting tool, I'm sure exemptions were easy. BTW his son is currently playing some decent football at Notre Dame. |

I think if you plan to go combat arms, either is a viable choice. If you are going for a one hitch warrior culture experience, Marines. (this from an Army Infantryman).
I think if you want to do anything other than combat arms, the Army would be the place to go. First, because of the size difference, there are just a lot more people in the Army and a lot more support jobs/opportunities. Plus, given the larger size, promotion opportunities are more available in the Army, especially at higher ranks. Second, the Army gets a lot more money than the Marines. |

Marines kill everything that moves. When it stops moving they impregnate it.
Army kills everything that moves. When it stops moving they blow it up. |

Marines are like Army Rangers except they don't to airborne ops. Also, Marine NCOs are allowed to smoke Army 2LTs.

join the Navy and "try" to join the SEALs and try to make it if you can if that's what you want. But if you wash out of the SEALs then be prepared to float around on a tin can scraping rust and painting ships, then there is always the SEEBEES they get to play with heavy equipment even if it's green painted bulldozers and back hoes.
Join the ARMY and then join the Rangers or Green Berets Either way you will get a higher level of intensity and training. I was in the Navy and I have a enormous amount of respect for the Marines even after getting out I still the pride of Corp in the guys that I work with that are former marines. Good luck..... |

You never see any flag but a Marine Corps flag hanging out front of somebody's house.

However, even living outside Dyess for years I never saw an AF flag. I think the main difference is that the Marines have a kick-ass PR department. Army Commercials are lame. |

He got one out of four right.... 2 out of 4 is the minimum for the Army, 3 out of 4 would allow him to enlist in the Air Force or the Navy. 4 out of 4 would mean he's a college boy and probably a commie. All the gyrenes I've known have been good dudes, but definitely a cult vibe going on there. Also, having served 5 years in Army Infantry, I can attest 100% to the utter worthlessness of our pogs (as a general rule-i'm sure somewhere there are some hard charging PAC clerks or some shit, but for the most part they were less useful or pleasant as jizzy shitpiles.) |

Honestly, from what I've seen, there isn't a huge difference. Biggest I've seen is the whole "pride" thing for the Army comes from your branch (Artillery, Infantry, etc.) vs. the Marines place a lot of emphasis on the USMC itself. They both kill lots of people, do a lot of fun things, and do a whole lot of things that suck.
You're kind of late to the game for the good times, to be honest. With the rise of ultra-PC and the end of the big wars of the last decade. |

One thing I've noticed is the pride and loyalty is focused differently between the two.
Marines identify with the overall Corps. Soldiers identify with their units. For example, it was well known while I served that the Army, outside of the 82nd Airborne, sucked as much ass as the Marine Corps. |

Every person that I know that was in the Army has a "why I didn't join the Marine Corps story".

Both had ASVAB scores too low to get into the Navy or Air Force.
