So, nothing ever goes sideways when the .Gov conducts a drill?

Very well....carry on.

What a brilliant idea.

Birth more Dems and have them vote before their first birth day, to hell with dead people.

Two weeks ago, XEROX "tested" the EBT system and crashed it......

I saw this show already. The penthouse couple dies, there is an elevator, and the daughter's bf gives away food.

I have a couple of coworkers who were telling me about this "whole power shutdown test" and I thought about the same thing you stated above. It would be very hard to shut down every power plant across the nation.
Maybe these people believe all the power comes from one place.
Link Posted: 10/31/2013 4:54:26 AM EST
All the Northeast has to do to have a massive power outage is have one main transmission line go down again that overloads and trips out all the others, unless they fixed it after last time.
Link Posted: 10/31/2013 5:01:22 AM EST
Texas has it's own power grid

Don't worry chicken little. We do black start drills often.

I've been an electrician for 24 years...I am pretty damn sure I understand the whole power generation and distribution scenario...

All the article states is "150 power companies" will be paticipating....doesn't say who, or what states....but a company like First Energy maintains parts of the grid from Ohio to New Jersey...

2003 northeast blackout with the SUCK. It was hot as hell.

It was not the whole Northeast.

DC line from Hydro Quebec here, plus Seabrook reactor.

Doesn't this go back to the idea of a grid?

If one goes down, the rest pick up the slack, but if several go down and the maximum load is reached, either lines overheat trying to supply all the areas, or certain areas just get switched off.

Right?

The computers are "supposed" to know what to do.

My refrigerator is still fucked up from our "rolling blackouts".

Now I'm picturing a software error causing a reactor to decide it's lost external power and go into SCRAM.

All those control rods slamming down at once, anyone on the floor will need to change their pants.

I was living in northwestern CT at the time, near Torrington. Never lost power.

Plenty of power generation and fuel to keep the well humming along for weeks (or months if I'm careful).

Don't really need electricity for anything else but the fridges and freezers. And those don't use much.

So yeah, bring it on. Freeze the yankee.

I work at a power plant and one of my coworkers thinks the same thing. But then again, his name is Knight and he doesn't know the P in pneumatic is silent.

Stupid people are an endless source of entertainment.

We lost power here at the building for about 15 seconds. Too bad those fuckers don't know about our triple-redundant UPS and generators with automatic failover.
