I have a couple of coworkers who were telling me about this "whole power shutdown test" and I thought about the same thing you stated above. It would be very hard to shut down every power plant across the nation. Maybe these people believe all the power comes from one place. All the article states is "150 power companies" will be paticipating....doesn't say who, or what states....but a company like First Energy maintains parts of the grid from Ohio to New Jersey... then you above all people should know this is a non event I understand the "grid" is myriad of different systems hodge podged together. But, why didn't the area in Ohio get isolated from the grid faster? Why the chain reaction of "automatic" shut downs all around Lake Erie? Better yet....if a TREE can do that, imagine what a determined group with some explosives could do to a sub station. |

I also would've thought that an over heated powerline sagging into a tall tree, in Walton Hills, Ohio, WOULD NOT shut down electricity in CT, VT etc... Better yet....if a TREE can do that, imagine what a determined group with some explosives could do to a sub station. shit goes wrong. but how long did that last. sub stations are massively unprotected. i know here they actually have several mobile substations that can be trucked in for temporary use until repairs can be made. that said i have also been told that the large capacitors on the poles are only stocked in limited supply and can take months to get. so yea there are always holes in the systems. thats why i can easily go 30 days off grid if needed. more if i cut the lifestyle back a bit. most critical system here have the same capabilities on the corporate side. life will suck but it certainly won't end. |

And it is not uncommon to run Power Restoration Drills this time of year,it is required ....it is a simulation of a major blackout and tests "black start" capabilities. If this happens for real, good luck.

Hell, if any WIND storm is an indicator...... Well, you get the picture......your power grid sucks. And it is a fragile piece of shit, that puts at least 50,000 people in the dark during every major storm.... I'm not impressed.

Its truth. I posted about this maybe a month or two ago. Will try and find the link. Had the actual website and who is involved in the so called rehearsal.

All the Northeast has to do to have a massive power outage is have one main transmission line go down again that overloads and trips out all the others, unless they fixed it after last time. You people are retarded. I guess you don't want to know how often nuke plants drill. I mean, wouldn't it be great if they designed something separate from the real controls to run simulations? We could call it...a....wait for it...SIMULATOR!
