Shock is the body's way of deciding that you will die relatively peacefully and not feeling as much pain as your fatal injury merits.

It's your brain saying "Check, please!"

I don't mean to demean the man or make light of the terrible situation, but he reminds me of Emo Philips.

I haven't had injuries NEARLY that bad, but I can kind of relate to his reaction (and it's not just injuries that get you into that kind of mindframe, trust me).  Kind of a "I can't believe this happened, I can't comprehend what it'll mean right now, but it's bad, really bad, but I don't quite know what that means, but whatever it means I will have to accept it, but I don't know how, I just don't know what to think right now" kind of reaction.

He broke his tibia just below the knee, and his foot is up against it in the video. Not sure where the rest of the tibia is?

If the muscles and connective tissues aren't separated from their points of origin and insertion, they might be able to put it all back together, insert some Titanium rod into the tibia, and reconstruct everything.
