I checked mine and fortunately it isn't even the same brand. Thank you for posting OP, that is a great safety check.

Yes, I had one of the Kenmores recalled. All Sears gives you is a $90 check and $25 off the purchase of a new one. Since the same size is $200, (Sears sucks), I got a much higher rated and much quieter Frigidaire instead.
ETA: This is a new recall. The 05 Kenmore I had was on another list, go to CPSC and check for other recalls! You know why these are? MADE IN CHINA. Can't find any made in the US!!!!! |

need to check tomorrow
Mine is currently off as I haven't been running it much lately, still plugged in though |

Just netted solid brownie points with the girlfriends dad. That combined with the RRA I just sold him pretty puts me at the top of the suitor chain.
Thanks OP. I take back half of want I've said about FIBS in my life :) |
|
Had one at my mom's house that is mostly unoccupied, went by one day to find the unit running hot along with the cord that was getting warm. Did some research on Google to see if it was prone to problems only to learn today's units commonly quit working after a year or two. Apparently we had one that was growing closer to going out with a bang.
One major manufacturer apparently only asks for a receipt and sends a refund no questions asked, that spoke volumes for the information I'd learned. |
|
Mine is a Frigidaire, but model number is one letter and one number different from those covered by recall.
Hope they don't decide more need to be recalled and forget to tell us again. |

I went and checked mine, wrong serial range. It's pretty new because the last one started on fire in front of me, luckily I was nearby when it happened. Too bad I didn't get my money back though.

Fellow member from IL Carry had a house fire about a month ago, caused by a dehumidifier. It had been the subject of a recall a week previously, but the guy wasn't aware of that. He lost everything. http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=42261 On september 19, 2013 my family suffered a large house fire. I lost 6 firearms and all tools/cleaning supplies/accessories. Insurance will replace most of what was lost. The cause of this fire was a Dehumidifier that had unknown to me been recalled the previous week. I am sure many of you are like me and run dehumidifiers in basements or near firearms collections. Please check them. The company that made mine was sold at a local home supply store. Due to pending litigation I wont name the store but will post a link to the recall notice. Please check it out and tell everyone you know. Our fire will end up costing between $400,000-500,000. We lost everything. The best example of everything I can give is the night of the fire I had to borrow shoes from the neighbor to get to the hotel. My family is ok and thats really what counts.
I dont want anything from anyone just to make fellow firearm owners aware of something that is an issue. I am sure there are many of us that have these near our collections and even if not please still check them. Thank you for reading this. I hope it saves someone some heartache. Great information and link to the recall site. We live in an old cabin and use a few of the electric oil filled radiator style heaters. I make it a practice to touch the power cord right at the wall quite often as those cords need to stay cool in use. Regards

Wow thanks for posting. I just checked and mine is on the list. I called the number on the link and got right through to a human (imagine that?). Gave her my numbers and she confirmed mine is recalled. They are sending me a package and from what I understand I will have to peel the sticker off the back and take some part out of it, send that stuff back and they will send me a check for the retail price. I'm guessing the part I take out is their way of disabling it.

Thanks for this thread! The school I attend provides dehumidifiers in quite a number of the residences, and I know for a fact that there are Frigidaire and possibly some Kenmore in use. I checked the one in our apartment (Frigidaire) and it's not on the list, but better to spend a little time to verify than to possibly suffer loss of property or life.

I'm amazed at the number of people who have these They're a necessity in homes with basements. I have a basement. I just open the windows. Of course in the winter probably not. A DE Humidifier? Taking water OUT of the air? Interesting concept. |

Thanks for the link OP. Mine is not on the list, but I am glad I checked.

Had one of them running.. in my SAFE/AMMO ROOM for the last SIX years!
Fucking china. Unplugged and will be replaced with something else tomorrow. Thanks for the heads-up OP. |
|
Well shit, mines on the list. Any suggestions on good replacements? Or where to get one?
|
|
I was hoping my De’Longhi was on the list. The pump stopped working and now I have to empty it manually.
Thanks to the OP and thanks for the tack though. |
|
Damn thanks for the heads up mines on the list. I have run this in my garage loading room all summer every summer for years.

CRAP!!! I've had one of the recalled units running in my man cave/gun room for months now. It sits right next to a large locker full of powder and ammo.
THANK YOU OP!!! I've already gone to the Gree's recall site and registered. Damn shame...the thing works worked like a champ... |
|
I have one of the recalled models. I had no idea there was a recall.
Thanks OP and ARFCOM! |
|
Just checked. Ours is recalled also. Hope it's not too much of a PITA, but better that than burned house. We used to leave ours running all the time.
|
|
Real sorry, got a letter about ours, a year or so ago, (differnent maker) never heard back.
Unplugged and locked out till further notice. Real Sorry... |
|
If I had a wife I bet she'd have spare shoes in the trunks of the cars.

Bought a dehumidifier at Lowe's for in my Mom's basement a few months ago...and no, I'm not living there. I will go check the brand and model tonight.
Sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how terrible that can be. Thanks for the heads-up. |
|
Well the two I have in the basement are not recalled.
Have one sitting outside that crapped out and was hoping it was on the list so I could turn it in but no luck. Gotta pay a $15 disposal fee at the dump to get rid of it due to the Freon. |
|
Had one of these running in our basement for the past year, thanks for the heads up!
