I'm on my way to the school this afternoon to skin out a large black wolf with a gray face. Apparently the .gov hunter just shot it, and got it donated to us. I've got a student who wanted to do one, well, looks like she will get her chance.
It will take a few hours to skin; so much for my Sat. afternoon. I'll get some pictures up later. |

A new project? You seem to have a full schedule of tasks to accomplish there, my friend.
Keep up the good work. |

Have you or your student seen 'thebrainscoop' youtube channel?
I don't know that it would help any but it might be interesting to both of you considering your work. There is a series on skinning out a wolf. http://www.youtube.com/user/thebrainscoop |

I need to move to Wyoming. Between you and the elk hunting guy, you have all the cool stuff out there.

Luckily, this will be an individual project for a single student. She's got all semester if necessary. I was already at the school this morning getting supplies for the stagecoach. Hard to say no to a chance like this though. Big wolf to go next to the grizz, sounds pretty cool. |

Ill skin this from the dorsal side; his back. It's much thicker hair that is easier to hide the seam, and less to sew up. |

Update coming. I'm finally at dinner. I finished about an hour ago and hes in the freezer. HUGE SONOFABITCH!!!!
|

Ok, the update.
This was a roughly 3yr old male...maybe 130-140lbs.... A guess by the .gov hunter. I can tell you he was twice as big as my GSD, who's about 75lbs, and lanky. His paws are as big as the palms of my hands+the first knuckle. HUGE! For those who saw the grizzly, this is longer, but not as heavy. His skull was almost as big as the grizzlys. He stunk bad, but he'd been gut shot with buckshot. Almost as bad as the grizzly. The hunter said that was normal for every wolf he's shot. He came out of a pack on Carter Mt, near Cody, WY. He was one of 17!!!! That was killing cattle. They got three from the chopper with the shotgun. He's not as "black" as I would have thought. Here are the pics. Again, I'm awestruck by this guys size. a pack of 17...... Holy shit they could do some damage. </a> Untitled by guns762, on Flickr" /> </a> Untitled by guns762, on Flickr" /> </a> Untitled by guns762, on Flickr" /> |

Very nice.
I see you got the pic working. I've been trying to skin a few things around here and work with my boys to handle the hides. I have no clue what I'm doing, and suggestions? I can skin them pretty well including eyes and noses, but then I'm at a loss. |
