She had multiple rows of ribbons on today.

Can anyone tell me what they denote, and how widespread this practice is in the LE community?

It sure looks stupid. Omar Kadafi must have designed their uniforms bling-wise.

I know there is a Omar involved in making those porker's uniforms at any rate.

I think it's officially known as "flair'.

she's required to wear that many to keep up with her coworkers.  wonder how many ribbons the head librarian has??

We had this thread awhile back just like the Larue target thread.  IIRC DC Police has a medal that is the same as one of the WWII theater medals, so someone was trying accuse the Chief of Stolen Valor, but the medal company that makes these things just reused the ribbon design for something else, like going 30 days without spilling coffee on your tie.....

Well they're awards, but a lot of them appear to be given out for taking part in, like, doing their job.

Honestly, the whole medal thing I never really understood. It's mainly an east coast thing.  You should see what some of their FIRE CHIEFS wear.

I've only worn two.

You weren't there, man. It was brutal. They ran out of Splenda packets and the danish was frozen, not fresh. No valet parking and the WiFi reception sucked.

In Philly years ago I used to see a lot of older cops wearing their military ribbons from Vietnam. I asked one and he told me they are supposed to wear any they were awarded in the service.
