Yay or nay?
I want to get a SUV, but the Jeep Grand Cherokees always get horrible ratings and reviews. Nissan makes a nice one, but they look almost as feminine as a Honda CRV. What do you guys think? |
In stock form yes. I have seen some nicely built Xterras, but those guys dumped a lot of cash into them to make it de-pussified.
I like the way they look, especially lifted. They are very capable vehicles, and a good value.
... but every time I see one, there is a chick behind the wheel. Same goes for 4 runners. |
well chicks are more manly than men nowadays - but no it's a dudes vehicle
girls have to give handjobs to drive those, so if you see a girl driving one she just jerked a dude off. |
I have a 2011 Xterra. I don't care for the "hey I'm outdoorsy look at me" styling (mainly the big ass roof rack in my eyes) . I bought it because it wasn't unibody, had a 5000lb tow rating, and was reasonably priced. The wash-it-out-with-a-hose cargo area was also a plus.
Most of the other SUVs in that size range have unibody construction and are rated at 3500 lb towing capacity. |
Nissan sucks. Cars do anyways, haven't heard horrible stuff about the trucks/SUVs.
Get a trail edition 4 runner. |
I dont think so. They are reliable and capable off road.

I think they're pretty good. If I had to replace my 1990 Nissan Pathfinder (but only if I have to), I'd be interested in an Xterra. The Pathfinder went from being quite off road capable in the older models to definitely a chick SUV (semi-luxury grocery getter). I see the Xterra as the spiritual successor to the old Pathfinder.

Uncomfortable with your sexual identity?
Why would you care or even give any credence to such juvenile attitudes? </rhetorical> |

Whatever dude, a car is a car. Buy what you want. For that matter, why care about what others drive? I swear, a lot of people are MYOB types but then when it comes to certain things they lose it. |
There are a lot more manlier vehicles to drive but there are certainly gayer ones than an Xterra.
Its not the car that comes off gay, but the driver. Some of the "manliest" men drive minivans. Some of the biggest flower children drive GT500's.

A buddy of mine - career Army infantry and married to a woman, bought one and loves it. I never thought they were chick cars.

Anything besides a lifted diesel truck or a Jeep is a chick car according to most around here

I say no. I have two coworkers that bought new ones in 2011 and have had no problems. Both wanted 4Runners, and I went to the local Toyota dealership with both. The dealership wanted too much over sticker. I don't remember how much less they paid for the Xterras, but it was enough less that even a huge Toyota fan like me would consider buying one.z

Maybe, but then again I also own a miata. Occasionally I double down and tow the miata with the xterra.
I love mine. 98000 and 0 problems. Has taken me every place I wanted to go. the stock tires did suck ass big time

I voted no even tho my wife is on her second Xterra. She had an '08, and now an '11 PRO4X that's nearing the end-of-lease, both purchased new. They kinda remind me of an LR Discovery, kinda outdated technology, cramped inside, not much in the way of modern features and lousy gas mileage. She loves 'em anyway. I'll say this, mechanically they're trouble free and their off-road capabilities far exceed my bravery in such conditions. We've done some climbing and crawling offroad in Colorado, and it never failed to amaze us.

Nissan makes a great product
I voted yes But if in the market for a vehicle like that I'd buy one |

everything you need and nothing you don't. I'm on my 2nd X. Been a fan since 2004. As a vol. firefighter I've driven through all kinds of crappy weather with no issues. During the "snowacane" of 2009 I drove the 76 miles from work at about 35 mph - while having to pass the white knucklers driving three across at 15 mph on Rt. 80 - on the shoulder no issues.
On the first X I had to replace the drive chain at 100k miles after it started to whine a bit and got another 113k out of it. I've got 78k miles on the second X - knock on wood - no issues. Gas mileage sucks ~ 22mpg Love the steel frame - the same chassis that the Frontier is built on. Feels like a tank. I got rear-ended buy some mope - drove his brand new BMW under my bumper so far it picked my rear wheels up off the ground, put it in 4x4 and drove off his hood then went on my way to work. |
They aren't bad. I wouldnt call it a chick SUV and they are pretty capable. My BIL has one, but he is . Never gets stuck though.

There are exceptions, but yes I expect to see a female when I see one.

It sure beats the hell out of all the "oh I'm just a minivan trying to look like an SUV" (also known as a Crossovers)... I'd rather drive the damn minivan!
And yes, they should only be sold in Yellow |
