Steven Spielberg drops out of directing "American Sniper"
Bradley Cooper remains set to star and produce via his 22nd and Indiana banner, though Spielberg's DreamWorks banner is no longer involved as a co-financier.
An individual familiar with the project tells TheWrap that Spielberg had a vision in his head for the movie that didn't align with the current budget. View Quote Filming was SUPPOSED to start in late January....but now is on hold pending finding a new director. |

Check fire! Remember that Cooper is the gun-grabber getting cozy with BHO! Spielberg may be opting out of the flick because of political interference with the story!

His best days are behind him. I will say he does have a very high opinion of himself though.
IMO he is highly over rated as a director. You could take most any 2 bit hollyweird director and give him unlimited funds, $200-$300 million dollar budgets like Stevey boy always gets and they'd look great too. Lets see him make a popular movie with a $200k budget instead of $200 million, he doesn't have the talent and skills. |

View Quote You are correct in that almost any movie with a $200mil budget is going to look great. You may be right in that his best days are behind him But Steven Spielberg, whatever his personal faults and politics has made a lot of stone classic American movies during his career. Jaws ET Raiders of the Lost Ark Jurassic Park Schindler's List Saving Private Ryan and most of his other movies are still pretty darn great, if not outright classics like Catch Me If You Can Amistad Close Encounter of the 3rd Kind Empire of the Sun Munich And these are just what he's directed. He's produced even more stuff that he didn't take lead on. Whatever you can say about SS, you can't say he's a hack. |

He made lots of great movies but he is an Obamafile and a Fudd when it comes to guns...not the "sniper" type I'm afraid.

To any one with a normal abilty to notice details, Spielberg should seem lackluster as a director.
He is overrated and loves Zero. |
|
Im guessing Spielberg wanted to slip some NAZIs into the story, Cooper wants it to be a morality tale about "living by the gun" and we are gonna get a shitty movie that misses the mark on the service of a guy who deserves to be honored by people that appreciate his sacrifice.

I hope the movie includes him knocking out Jesse Ventura. View Quote Just finished reading the book last week. Great book. It was sad reading him talk about his life after the Navy with his family and kids knowing that he is now gone. This Country needs a lot more people like Chris Kyle. |

Watch Oliver Stone end up directing it.
I'd vote for Ben Affleck, but he's more of an outright film maker these days doing his own projects. |

He spoke to him before Cooper bought the rights, and gave it his approval. I'll trust Kyle's judgement in who he let buy the rights to his movie until given reason to do otherwise. |

To be fair, the new TinTin was pretty badass.
Yes, it got a little absurd towards the end as it kept trying to top itself. The denouement was real absurd. But it was a solidly good movie. Lots of awesome gun porn (I really want a BHP with tangent sights after seeing it.), and it starts off awesome with a hardcore straight-from-the-comic murder scene. TinTin himself has a PPK. All the weapons and gunplay are legit, and period-correct. That's rare enough of a thing. Yes, they make a bunch of stupid sight gags to exploit the 3D version of the movie. Yes, I'll repeat, the denouement is patently absurd. But Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 75% and I'm inclined to agree. |
