that was pretty fucking awesome.

I love when people can actually talk about the science and physics behind things like this and not just say sweet ak underwater.

If you like science, be sure to watch the entire video.  Then get some ice for your brain.

I wonder how far from the muzzle the shot would be deadly in his test.  The bullet only travels 5-6 ft he said.

I love seeing (and hearing) the secondary implosions caused by the water rushing back into the cavitation caused by the gasses. Very cool.

I would love to see penetration testing with ballistic gelatin underwater at point blank range, out to five or six feet.

Yeah, his explanation late in the video really helped.  Never knew that.

That guy is pretty smart! This also kind of proves the myth that fluid in your bore will bulge the barrel is false.

I liked watching the charging handle cavitate as it accelerated rearward.

Between that, the darkness of the powder on the inside, and the flickering light..........It looks like an underwater storm cloud.  Pretty cool.

Was that AK modified for underwater use?

If not, I'm impressed.

Cool video. I thought it was cool that he pointed out the cavitation caused by the pressure before the bullet actually leaves the muzzle. Same principal for submarine propellers, if they spin too fast it creates low pressure and causes cavitation which makes them easier to detect.

If it is DI that is likely to end explosively.

Shows what I know....

I thought shooting a semi auto under water would destroy the gun.

I was wondering if it would work......I did not think so. You'd need a piston AR.

I'd be leery of a piston AR too, AKs have very loose tolerances.  I would not volunteer to be the shooter of a piston AR underwater.

Brings to mind what Robinson did with the XCR, shooting while swimming to shore.

so in theory if he went down to the deep end of the pool
pointed the AK straight up and did some fine tuning of the height of the gun

he could get a 7.62 bullet to shoot up out of the water a few inches and then fall back down

I've seen many DI AR's fire underwater just fine. It is a myth that they blow up just like having any fluid in the bore bulges the barrel.
