Finally got around to clearing out part of our garage after we got our house hold goods delivered a few months ago, and in one tub alone I came across 3 brown recluses and one egg sac. I know that means there are tons of these fuckers in my garage. What is the best brand of bug bomb to set off a box of to kill all living things in our garage?
Link Posted: 7/15/2013 10:43:15 AM EDT
My approach has always been to buy two of each brand/model of bug bomb and set them all off at the same time in the garage.

So far it has worked and not blown anything up.

Daddy long legs?

AHHH BROWN RECLUSE!!!!!

Make friends with some Phidippus Audax jumping spiders. They'll hunt and kill the Recluses, and won't bother you.

Not to threadjack, but I have a related bug bomb question if anyone answering the OP has a moment:

If I close off a portion of my house and bomb it (like a garage, attic, or basement), does it cause any issues in the rest of the house? Will I have to evacuate the whole building? I ask because I have pets, and I don't want to bomb the main part of the house.

get some Tennex. Mix it at twice the concentration recommended.

wear a mask and goggles (Mop gear might be recommended)

get a sprayer.

Spray every surface in the garage. spray the outside walls as well.

spray around any doors and windows.

nothing will survive - including pets.

shit is pricey though.

bug bombs dont work that well. Glue traps or actually finding the bastards and applying insecticide directly on them is about it.

Lived in SW Mo. since the early 90's. I am very familiar with what a brown recluse looks like compared to Daddy Long Legs and Wolf Spiders.

No sh*t, I'm definitely in on this. An old buddy of mine damn near died from a Brown Recluse bite, was in the hospital for over a month. Complications upon complications, the guy was seriously effed for a long time.

Mostly scorpions and black widows here in the Sonoran desert, but we do have brown recluses also

We had a building in Chinatown blow up a couple of days ago. Seemd the tenament was infested. The owners flooded the joint with raid grenades. Mr Foo unknowingly lights a lucky and kerbrammo hory shit!

Be careful

PS Brown Recluses eat a bag o dicks. I got bit in Ft. Jackson. ever shakes pain and a staph infection at the wound site. Good times. Get a flamethrower.
Link Posted: 7/15/2013 10:49:36 AM EDT
I used Ortho Bug B Gone around the outside of the house, yard, fences. That shit killed every living insect you could imagine. There were dead spiders everywhere, I had no idea they were even around.

Move.

And don't bring anything with you to the new home!

I'd call in the pros. The stuff they use is more powerful and lasts longer then what we can buy off the shelf. May require a combination of sprays, etc.

I wiped out some black widows in my garage with (IIRC) a pyrethrin based spray. But a brown recluse infestation is much worse, from what I hear. And their bite is much worse, don't fart around with half measures.

Import some wolf spiders from outside. I have no doubt that a good size one could devour 3 recluses in a day. Finding them might be a pain but they would work.

Hmm, 40 bucks for 240ml. I wonder if using it at 16ml concentrations would be cheaper than getting Orkin out here for a pro job around the outside of my house and inside my garage.

You need to be aware that if you choose to bomb, they likely will take shelter inside the walls.

Not saying it won't kill some, because it will, but there will be some which seek refuge inside the walls of your home.

Nope, they use them for exactly what the OP needs them for.

Glue traps, jumping spiders, and clutter eliminations/deep cleaning behind headboards, under dressers/beds/washers and dryers, etc is the only way. Insecticide will hurt you worse than those hell spawn.

As I said earlier, they'll actively hunt Recluses. Fuck yeah, Phidippus Audax!

As much as I like this idea, I seriously doubt that my spouse is going to go along with ordering spiders at 7-10 bucks a pop and letting them loose in our house/garage. She's female like that.

God I wish there was a really really really really small GoPro you could mount on one of those. That would be some EPIC video.

I don't think it's 7-10 per spider, but I don't know how many are in a "sling"

ETA: I seem to have misinterpreted the term. Jeez, is this guy really charging that much per spider? I'm in the wrong business.

I have heard that the brown recluse spider is very very hard to kill.

Here's some info I grabbed of the net.

Crack and Crevice Treatments:
This treatment is generally applied with a liquid spray (LambdaStar 9.7% CS, FenvaStar EcoCap ) and dust (DELTA DUST), and aerosols ( CY-KICK AEROSOL, ALPINE AEROSOL) to be applied to small cracks and crevices in a structure with spiders may live and hide.

That's cheap! Off line, store price, if you can find it, is 54.99. One spraying lasts me a year(depends). I live in a forest and the bugs......well eventually I coughed-up the bucks. Would cost me several thousands of bucks to have the pros do it. I had to get it in MT.

Spiders?

Link Posted: 7/15/2013 11:39:23 AM EDT
They are hard to kill. Treat crawlspace and attic. Pull switch covers, receptacle covers, phone/TV jacks and put spray or powder there too. With the long legs they don't get in contact with large amounts of poison. I had a pro do my last home.

brah, if cockroaches can survive a nuclear weapon, do you really think this will kill a brown recluse?

The picture of the cradle falling away with its own parachute amuses me. Are we worried about it falling on someone and hurting them before the bomb can annihilate them?

THIS!

Daring jumping spiders are freaking 8 legged ninja assassins that are your friend. Dump a bunch in your AO op and the brown recluse spiders will be over run in short order. Daring jumping spiders are Gods way of saying FUCK YOU to all the nasty 8 and 6 legged creatures that can mess with people. They are true lethal art in motion.

All of them. At once.

Seriously, solved a friends Brown Recluse problem by emptying the bug-bomb shelves at Wal-Mart, amd saturating each room at like 200x the suggested amount.
