I don't think many people here would know that that's really his uniform.  He earned every thread of it.

Yup thats HIS uniform, with HIS ribbons, and HIS pilot's wings and HIS General's stars. That is not a prop uniform, that is HIS uniform.

He left acting with an Academy Award on his mantle, enlisted as a Private in the Air Corps, went through pilot training (he was already a civilian pilot), became a squadron Ops Officer flew in excess of his required missions, earned a few DFC's, and ended up being Chief of Staff for the 8th (?) Air Force. He went from buck Private to a Colonel in 4 years on his own merit. He refused to let the Air Corps send him back to be in War Bond films. He ended up commanding an AF reserve base, and flew a few missions over Hanoi as an observer.

Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, or Patrick Swayze.

Honorable mention would be Christopher Reeve so we could have a real Superman movie again.
