Every time they try it, it becomes a laughingstock due to quaint, outdated features that are 20 years behind the times, and often served with a heaping helping of poor execution.

All American 2000
Double Eagle
Colt SOCOM

The Colt SSP probably could have gained some market share.  They basically built a S&W 3rd gen long before S&W ever got around to it.  However, the rocket surgeons at the helm thought it wouldn't sell.

Why should they move on from what customers want? They can't produce enough 1911s or 6920s. Hell, demand for their SAAs are still high. They make great products that people still want.

"Half the gun at twice the price!"

People will line up and buy it because it has a horsey on it and suck the cock of a company that Connecticut gets money from since they own the name. Of all the fucking boycotts everyone screeches about here, not boycotting Colt all these years, since CT owns the name, has baffled me.

The difference is that Colt is selling every "Model T" it can produce with incredibly long wait times.

If and when demand ever does die out for the current stuff, they can dust off the Python and Detective Special tooling, or make new tooling, and make some of those.  They'll sell like hot cakes.

The Python as it's specs were would require way too much hand fitting by today's standards, it would end up being a min three times what a S&W 686 goes for today and end up failing in the marketplace.

Connecticut owns the Colt name. Connecticut gets a cut from Colt to fund their anti-gun agenda.

There's a whole lot better quality out there than Colt.
