I need a very basic, easy to use cad program. I work as a general contractor/mechanical contractor. In the past I did building permit prints by hand or hired it out if it was a big job.

Now the city won't take hand done prints even on small jobs. Most of what I do is small buildings on properties with existing buildings (5-20k square foot size).

I need something free or very cheap as I only build in city limits maybe 6-14 times per year. My only experience on cad programs was in high school drafting class.

Advice?

Draft sight is very similar to AutoCAD. Except it is free.

this is that i use for doing something fast and simple, i also have SolidWorks 2011 for the complex stuff

Draftsight is great and I use it quite a bit on my Mac. Keep in mind that its license is time limited and has to be renewed periodically. Dassault my decide to modify the license terms without warning. That will not be an issue for me, but might put others in a jam.
