My brother and I both had one of those!!!!

I've got to hand it to my mom, she never took issue with us playing with toy guns.

My parents wouldn't buy me one of those battery operated ones...I did have the M-16 toy gun that sort of wound up and clicked when you pulled the trigger though

I miss the Cold War.

I had the Entertech M16. Most of the kids on my block had the others or similar ones.

... and then the super soakers came out and ruined it all. We went from awesome battery powered full auto squirt guns to neon jack-off hoses.

I also had a BB rifle that looked like a mutant M16 and a BB Uzi that was CO2 powered.

I had the AK version of those toy water guns.  They also had some cool ones in the late 80's.  I had the UZI.

I don't know that'd I'd call airsoft guns "toys" per se but I'll agree that they're a damn sight nicer than the gun toys I had as a kid.

I had a couple of Entertech waterguns as a kid too. My favorite was the .45 pistol with the massive water reservoir.

Those were awesome.  I remember I had the Water Hawk (Tec 9) and the shotgun.

Of course, this was also back in the day when we'd go to the surplus stores, buy camo gear and run around the woods in our neighborhood with toy rifles.

I'm guessing that would result in a SWAT team response these days, evaluation of whether we were a threat to society, evaluation of our parents and the way we were being raised, etc.

We used to play with those in the barracks back when I was in AIT.

So much fun.. there is nothing quite like running drunken midnight watergun assaults on whatever poor fool drew Fire Watch.

I had one of those uzi looking ones that I kept in my work truck, back in the early 80's, would do drive bys on my co workers with it.

They didn't care for that to much.

Few years ago, some co workers got called in on for throwing french fries at each other between the two trucks at a stop light.

The world has gone full retard.

AIRSOFT is nothing more than a TOY...

you can use them for force on force training...but do not compare to sim, utm, and other marking rounds

I had the M16.  Carrying handle would slip over the handlebar of my bike.  It was great!  Was real enough that I remember the cops pulling me over, then they used it to squirt my buddies that were riding with me.  Laughs all around - they gave it back, we thought it was cool.  The ride ended at the local grocery store to play PacMan and buy bubble-gum cigarettes.

Of course not, but you can absolutely injure someone with one used inappropriately. Thus I'd consider them something slightly above the level of a cap gun or water gun, and wouldn't consider giving one to a younger child. I don't consider BB guns to be "toys" either.

Nerf guns are sawesome now.

Detachable box magazines, fully functional fire control, modular designs, sights, rail system.

My nerf guns were cartoonish in comparison.

For example...here is the pinnacle that I grew up with.

Airsoft guns can have a higher muzzle velocity than some BB guns, and they tend to be either semi or fully automatic, while most youth BB guns are manually-operated repeaters. This combined with their close resemblance to actual firearms, IMHO, keeps them firmly out of the "child's plaything" category. I don't need my neighbors freaking out and cops being called because my son and his friends are reenacting the Tet Offensive in the backyard.

There are more than a few countries that regulate military replica airsoft guns as if they were real firearms. I don't agree with that, personally, but I do believe a certain modicum of care should be exercised in their use.
