I believe I once shot in an area called Lytle Creek. That was back in 86 or 87!

Did go to Lytle creek with family friend a loong time ago..pretty much a warzone with JBT "observers" watching your every move.
.make sure you can prove whatever you have is legal pre ban and registered if you go there..just saying!

there is this http://www.lytlecreekrange.com/

Lytle Creek is much nicer now. I like it better than Burro Canyon. The downside is that occasionally the cops roll in and want to check on everyone before they leave, essentially go on fishing expeditions. That's what a range officer said, anyways. Their excuse is that they're looking for gang members. Never actually seen that happen, though (perhaps the guy was pulling my leg). It's not too rigid, but it isn't the mess that it used to be.

West End, though, blows any other range in the area out of the water, provided you're a member or their guest.

As far as BLM land goes, I've never heard about anything that allows shooting around Elsinore, but I don't know that it doesn't exist, either. Many areas people think are legal to shoot in (and often do) in that general area have, when I've looked them up, proven to be places where discharge of firearms is prohibited or which are shotgun only. I know a lot of shooting areas have disappeared over the years. The desert in San Bernardino and Kern Counties is still the best bet, IMO, as there is lots of land where one may discharge any sort of firearm. I know there are BLM maps out there that cover what can be shot where; I've seen them for Kern, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties. It might help to do a search or see what info your local gun store has (sometimes they have BLM maps; one of the Turner's out where I live had them).
The finest opportunity ever given to the world was thrown away because the passion for equality made vain the hope for freedom.

I grew up in Elsinore and can't remember a place you can legally shoot. We use to shoot all the time up in the hills off Lake street, theres a trail going north into the hills right off Lake Street and the 15. There are always folks up there shooting, ive never been bothered by cops up there....but not exactly legal.. Im pretty sure you can still legally shot out south east of Temecula off 79 south just past the 371 on the right, there is a mobil home camping area, the driveway for the mobile home park leads to a dirt road that goes up the mountain to some shooting spots.

There's NF land in/around Elsinore, but I'm not aware of any BLM land. I've never heard of shooting allowed anywhere hear the area. The closest is going to be Prado, Raahauges, or farther up north to Lytle Creek or BLM land around Barstow.

They put the stop to that area at least 5 years ago. Trash and houses getting hit in the area. It was a nice place to shoot though.

FWIW we used to go out to Victorville back in the day 10 miles outside of town I-15 Hodge rd/stoddard wells exit
http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/barstow/stoddard.html
Website now says "no shooting now" except shotguns during hunting season"

Shot there for years back in the day but its really only legal for shotguns as its considered as an off road driving area so no centerfire/rimfire..it was
my favorite place to shoot in Cali back way before they banned everything. There WAS a very safe place to shoot at back in there we called "the gallery"
we'd shoot at with backstop and all off the main trail and then later we'd go watch the SCORE off road guys practice in their dune buggy's(those were the days)
..but hell BLM were sometimes pricks back then.. so I'd really hate to see what they are now with everything being "illegal" and all they always told us legally
we had to go like 10 miles past Barstow to truly be legal shooting in the damned desert 100 miles out from anywhere..
