According to Dallas News, a couple, Jimmy and Jennifer Henderson, and Christopher Henderson, Jimmy's brother, identified the attacker as their cousin, Derrick Birdow, 33. Police say Birdow was not a member of the church but they believe his children were.
When Birdow's cousin, Deeverett Wingham, saw the car Birdow crashed into the church wall, he said: “I know — I see the car and everything, but it hasn't hit me yet." Christopher Henderson, said his cousin Birdow, had been acting strangely lately, claiming some people were trying to kill him. Henderson reportedly said: “He’s been having some issues, and he hasn't been himself. This past week, he’s been going through some stuff.” According to Henderson, Birdow had come into possession of some drugs "about a week ago that made him go crazy.” Hendersen said: “He’s a happy dude. I’m sorry for the church people, but I wouldn't have expected this out of him at all. I know it’s a loss for you, but it’s a big loss for us, too.” According to Dallas News, Tarrant County records show that in 2004, Birdow was jailed five years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was also convicted for "possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor family violence and driving while intoxicated." http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/335798 |

Guns. Everyone needs to learn how to use, and carry pistols. Especially social celebrity pastors.
Prayers sent. |

/Was this one of those assault guitars with the shoulder thing that goes up?

The poor janitor really gave it his best trying to save the pastor from the nut/drug addict.
When that asshole shot all the Sikhs one of the older leaders of the group tried to fight him and was shot and killed.

well that is fucked up. prayers to all those involved. Interesting Freudian slip. You maybe ought to have that looked at. |

well that is fucked up. prayers to the victims family . Yep. I'm really surprised no one in the church was carrying. It's too bad someone wasn't...they might have been able to save the pastor. |

I knew there was a reason the Evangelicals I grew up with had an aversion to guitars

Man, that story is the most F'd up thing I've read for a while.

Wait, the suspect died?
Is that because he got cracked in the head with a piece of lumber? It's not real clear... Speed |

So... anyone know what brand/model of electric guitar??? Probably a Tele or a Strat. Nothing makes a beter bludgeon than a Fender. Neck on a Gibson wouldn't survive the first hit. |

is it wrong that the first thing i thought of is that he was doing his wife?
could be a robbery but really who knows. |

Where were the men? I can't believe just one guy tried to help. I can see someone not helping some joe on the street but your minister?
I always carry to church and I always sit in a place that I can bail if need but also where I can see who enters the auditorium. I would have thought is this was a "Mega"church they would have had some type of security team. |

I smacked a drunk off the stage one time with a Telecaster, they make a terrific blunt force weapon.

Probably a Gibson Les Paul. The only guitar sturdy enough (IMHO) to kill someone with. The neck is solid through the body, not bolted on. Too bad someone wasn't carrying. Not really a laughing matter, but I can't help but envision Left4Dead and the Twang sound when you kill a zombie with the guitar. |

Think it was yesterday, during the week. |

Birdow broke away from Rev. Danny Kirk and ran inside, with Whitaker and Kirk following. The attack continued near the music room, Whitaker said.
So, at some point, the guy ran away from them, and they chased him down? |
|
What a shame that nobody shot the crazy asshole. Now we get to keep him locked up for the rest of his life.

It's usually a variation on a strat that gets smashed. In regards to the sturdiness of LPs versus bolt-on strats/teles... trust me after 28+ years of owning many examples of them all –– the bolt-ons are every bit as tough. I have yet to see a strat/tele break off at the headstock (like LPs do). The weak spot on a bolt-on is obviously the bolt joint, but on the LP it's the angled headstock. At any rate... despite my casual banter about guitar construction, I am sad for this guy and his family. Would definitely be nice if someone had been packing. When I was more active in church, I rarely felt like packing one of my regular semi-autos. But the tiny NAA .22LR revolver that I carry as backup now would make a perfect little gun for such a situation. Despite the scourn that such mouse guns usually get around here... a well-placed .22LR round to this perps head would've ended things quickly. |

Quoted: Les Paul? Hardly. A Telecaster is the proper instrument for a musical bludgeoning. It would probably still be in tune afterwards. Or at least as in tune as a Telecaster ever gets. My Fender P-Bass is made for killing - solid, heavy and a longer reach.
