I went up north for a couple days and thought I would share some pics. I drove to Green Bay to visit Lambeau Field, and then went on to Door County. Due to lack of time and poor weather, I barely scratched the surface of things to do in Door County and didn't get many pics of the incredibly scenery. Door County is known as the Cape Cod of the Midwest and is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.
Lambeau Field -

From Green Bay I drove further north to Door County -

My waitress. The wait staff were speaking to each other in Swedish (or some Scandinavian sounding language.)

Swedish pancakes, eggs, Swedish meatballs, and lingonberries.

Washington Island -

Small museum hand built by 64 year old Jens Jacobsen to display his indian artifact collection. Danish construction technique.

Small maritime museum that I didn't have time to check out.

Park with fire tower. Steep climb but great view of the island.

Are we there yet? No, it was a cruel trick. Now we hike up a trail.

At the end of trail...more steps.

Much easier going down!

A neat church.

Which way?

Stopped for coffee.

Lunchtime!

Back on the ferry to the mainland.

Long drive home but...

...I planned ahead! Danish Kringle Omnomnom!

Finis

Beautiful area. I used to spend summers at my grandparents place in Fish Creek. We would go over to Ephraim and Sister Bay for evenings and ice cream. Bike Trails, Sailing, Swimming, Camping out and just walking around, Man I miss those days. I gotta get back up there soon. The grandparents no longer have the condo, but my siblings and I still went up a couple times since then and just camped out. The goats on the roof of Al Johnson's was always a favorite.

I've spent many weeks camping in Peninsula State Park over the years. Been to just about every place you depict in your pictures. Have family in Sister Bay. Always enjoy my time there.

Gotta love the Lambeau tour too. I need to do that again some time. I haven't done one since shortly after XXXI (didn't get to go down near the field back then either).

If anyone ever goes up there and likes to camp, Rock Island was awesome.  Its the next island north of Washington island.  Very limited sites (30ish)and you have to take a people only ferry to get out there.  Thanks for the pics OP!

Thanks for posting, and in regards to the '57 Chevy Truck at Lambeau, I'd really dig it, if it weren't for that Packers emblem on the doors.

Went to GB on a job several years back.  Drove over to visit an old Army buddy who lives in Stevens Point.  Beautiful country up there, just a little too cold for me in the winter.

did you get some Whitefish Chowder at the Viking Grill?

One of the few things I miss living back in Chicago was going to Door County in the Fall and Winter when it was dead.

Here you go. They give you a free map of the island on the ferry. It is listed on the map. Easy to find.

The Mrs. is from door county, something like 90% of the HS grads move and never come back. It's a nice place but unless you want to wait tables or shuck tourist crap there is pretty much no work. Her step father did pretty well as a small time construction guy but that work is pretty much all dried up now.

We still visit, they've got a nice place on the water.

Thanks for the pics.  Lots of people have no idea what WI has to offer (well, some FIBS have figured it out and invade my home state ).

SE WI is pretty much the precision barrel maker capitol of the world, lots of AWESOME ranges, smiths, matches etc.
Brewers, Packers, racing at The Mile, GLD and Road America.
Summerfest.
Hunting and fishing all over the state.
Beautiful scenery up north and to the west (well, all over really).
One of the best Capitol buildings in the country.
The Dells.

God bless Gov Walker.

Man, I need to take some leave and go home!

Notice you never see anyone going INTO Illinois for fun....

now if you REALLY get up north, you see some REAL wilderness.  There are plenty of Cleatsuses up there too!

I didn't make it over to the east side of the peninsula on this trip. I was only in Door County for about 19 hours. I'll definitely hit Baileys Harbor next time.

What he said.
Northern WI starts in Minocqua in my world.  And I live 75 miles north of that.

Cool anyways though.
