I made it through four boxes before deciding that the level of esoteric knowledge required to wring any semblance of humor out of that chart would guarantee a poor return on my investment of human capital. In other words, it sucks. |

How to choose an "Assault Weapon"
Step 1: Purchase trashcan. Step 2: Purchase AK-style rifle, such as WASR-10 or a converted Saiga. Step 3: Discard above rifle into said trashcan. Step 4: Purchase an AR-15 style rifle. |

No Colts. Smiths and Spike's.
Also FAL, Mossberg, and your chart has a massive Alvin York fail. No 1917. Al's gonna be pissed when he sees you. |

Your cleverness just continues to shine through. Tell the truth, you're a professional humorist, aren't you? The CA location gave it away. |

That is going into one of my next presentations, where I need to lighten the mood... |

"Assault Weapon" is an inaccurate term coined by the gun control lobby to make us look bad.

I'd never pay for something like that... I asked you nice once and since you ignored that, now I will ask you not so nice. Trashing an industry partner whose largesse to the members of this site recently added up between $15,000 and $30,000 is not viewed favorably. You and your 19 little posts don't stack up to a pile of ant shit in comparison. Knock it off. |

You CA envy is only adding to your anger... It's nice to see people that respond who get a chuckle out of it. It's also cool when some people make additional suggestions –– some of which I incorporate on future revisions. On the other hand I feel sorry for people like you. Either you're so filled with bitterness that you cannot laugh or you don't have the self-control to simply pass on such threads. Either way that's on you and you're of no consequence to me. Ciao!

The internets agree: "Term coined by Violence Policy Center head Josh Sugarmann to describe civilian semiautomatic firearms with a military or fearsome appearance, yet no more lethality than lesser weapons. Derived from the term "assault rifle", which means a fully automatic, selective fire rate firearm used by military and police personnel." ETA: spelling. |

But I don't want a Mini 14.... closest thing would be the Ruger AC556 stainless like on A-Team

I KNOW that Josh Sugarmann at VPC always seems to get credit for coining the term but WE (Gun folks) were using it YEARS before the date he, Sugarmann, is said to have pulled it out of his ass (1988). Even the Wiki entry for JS points this out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Sugarmann "The impression that Sugarmann originated the term may stem from a 1988 study he authored, Assault Weapons and Accessories in America, which was the first study to look at semiautomatic weapons the VPC deemed "assault weapons". However, variations on the term were in use in the gun press before Sugarmann's 1988 study." In the early 80's we had "Assault" pistols(Min-Uzi's, Tec's etc), "Assault" Carbines (Uzi's, HK 94's ETC) and "Assault" Weapons(All the bigger stuff). The terms was coined by US (The gun community) to market them. This is a first edition Guns Digest Book of Assault weapons (Published in 1986). We own that term (For better or worse). |

Don't use the term "assault weapon". It plays into the hands of the dickless hosehead hoplophobes. The correct term is "modern sporting rifle". Got that, Junior? Don't make me tell you again.

|
Assault Weapons is a pre-existing class, they are anti-structural rocket launchers. Like the Shoulder Launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon (SMAW) and the Ranger Anti-Armor Assault Weapon (RAAW).

Gun is gewehr, weapon is waffe or waffen. Some dictionaries will translate gewehr as "gun" but it means rifle. Just like how we have different words for firearms but not all words apply to the same types of firearms. I wouldn't look at a Smith & Wesson 586 and say "Wow, that's a nice pistol." A few examples G3 = Gewehr 3 G36 = Gewehr 36 P225 = Pistole 225 P8 = Pistole 8 Geschuetz or Kanone is a big gun, like something you'd find on a tank (prolific tank destroyer in WWII = StuG III = Sturmgeschuetz III) or an artillery piece. Gewehr, Geschuetz, Kanone, Pistole, all translate as "gun" but they mean different things. etc... <––- German speaker |

Yeah, it does depend on the context (I edited in a couple more examples above) but in the case of StG I personally would translate it as assault rifle. That's the thing about languages, they don't always mesh 1:1 with other languages. Of course YMMV, IMO, and all those disclaimers.
