The last time I saw a person decapitated in a traffic accident I asked them how they were doing.

I'd hate for anyone to think me impolite.

What did they say? Just can't get ahead?

ETA: If not, surely you could make a big overhand knot in a jacket and pull it tight around his leg and drag him off of it.

He was dead the moment he hit.  What are you trying to accomplish?

I'm amazed they have not put up rails to prevent this by now. You can't buy a handgun but they let you just walk right onto the subway tracks.

He was dead the moment he hit.  What are you trying to accomplish?

Not necessarily.    It is better to get hit with DC than AC, as it does not cause fibrillation in the heart.    He may have survived if he was pulled off in the first few seconds.

It's still a 600 Volt line.  He was cooking from first contact.

Yea, but like William Gray said, he may have survived if he could have been pulled off quickly. He would have been burned and felt like the devil got a hold of him, but he would have likey recouperated.

I personally know guys that have been hit by 600VAC, and 848VDC. The worst I have seen was not even a direct contact, but burns from an arc-flash when a contractor let go and shorted two phases.

I stood over a thug once as he bled out from a GSW. I did the whistling bit from Life of Brian. I don't know if it provided him any solace, but it has provided me with a lifetime of chuckles.

Can we conduct serious business for just one thread? I was getting all amped up for a good discussion. It's time to pull the plug on this one.

Thank you for taking charge and bringing this thread back to the ground.

This is the sort of tragedy I'd expect to see in DC. That it happened in NYC is just terrible.

This thread should be inducted into the hall of fame. It has a lot of potential for positive change.

That's NYC subway. . . and FWIW, there is no "34th St Train". . .however there are several lines that stop on 34th St in Manhattan. . .

And another observation:  there is always at least ONE person who thinks they know better and demands that somebody else "DO SOMETHING", or yells out what they think should be done in these types of things. . . and their understanding and knowledge of what is taking place and what should be done is in direct inverse proportion to how insistent and loud they voice their exhortations. . .

i feel a little sad for the girl that was trying to help him stay away from the rail before he got fried. And maybe a little disappointed, but really expected no different, that none of the several males standing around didn't try to pull him up.

Anyway get falling down drunk sometimes "everyday things" can kill you.

but fuck the girl who kept yelling "someone do something" once he made contact it was a lost cause

Souvenier?

Chances are if the guys on fire, he isn't kicking his leg because he hears you telling him to come get his shirt.
