Was the Magpul PDW 5.56?  Would seem to be a good fit if it was.

Yeah, I dig the layout on that thing. Granted, Masume Shirow called and wanted to talk about this thing called a "Seburo" he designed back in the mid 80's, might look familiar.

That's what belt-fed weapons are for.  In towers.  Much better than some folding stock SBR.

US Coast Guard: 41,873
Secret Service: 4,400
CBP: 58,000+
ICE: 20,546.

As a comparison, the NYPD has 36,000 officers.

So 7,000 rifles when you have a big staff isn't really a lot of rifles.

I don't recall how many were 5.56mm and how many were 40 .cal, but I do recall a lot of people who couldn't be bothered to learn what "IDIQ" means.

OH MY GOD DID HE SAY "PDW"????!!!!!  NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE I NEVER HEARDEDEDED OF SUCH THING!

Attention dumbasses.  The term "personal defense weapon" is obviously being used to achieve a degree of politically correctness since "Constitution and puppy hating gubbermint thug People slayers" might not be the best descriptor.  I'm sorry if that doesn't fit in with your giant collection of GunzNAmmo but they are simply talking about some kind of 5.56mm platform, probably an AR of some type.

That's pretty much how these things work.

spring loaded procurement is much easier to work in terms of graft, kickbacks, and designing the spec to the gun you already want to choose.

I do find it a little disconcerting that DHS wants "close quarters" fighting weapons.   Where in the fuck does that fit into their mandate?

You can't see any reason any guy in any agency in DHS would need to be up close weaponry?

Look at the list of who's under DHS again.

Also, if you make a somewhat basicproduct like an AR-15 every day and can't fill in the blanks and turn around a RFP in two days then I wouldn't want to pick you anyway. It's not like they have to come up with a whole new management strategy or something.

ETA: Never mine, it's a month long response time. That's plenty of time for anybody.

Sorry to interupt with talk of guns.  It was called the PDR and it is 5.56.  The gun in the picture is just a rapid prototype model.  There is more info and pics out on the web.
