So 133t he didn't think about the EXIF data.
Rookie mistake. Even half of Arfcom knows to scrub that shit before posting a photo. |

>hacker
>busted by exif data, which every 12 year old internet hate monger knows about hmm |

Nice tits. I would have been looking for the girlfriend and forget all about the hacker.

What would ID id? ~snip~ Not a damn thing. But when you take pictures with a modern cell phone it will quite likely show the phone model and also be geo-tagged. Given the accuracy of cell-phone GPS, it could easily be pinned to a specific address. |

They ID'd this guy because the picture was taken with an iPhone, and most smart phones put GPS coordinates in the exif data to tell where the pic was taken. |

Glad they caught him, I hate hackers I despise the little pricks too. I'm in IT, and for the past several days I've been dealing with a DoS attack from China that is trying to take down one of our webservers at work. It's like playing Whack A Mole-as soon as I block five or six IP addresses they just come back five mimutes later from different IPs. I'd nuke the whole subnet, but we have legit traffic from that region too Can't believe a "hacker" forgot about the exif data Cripes, my wife and teenage daughter know enough to scrub that before uploading pics to the web. I'm required to use a "real" camera when taking photos for work, camera phones aren't acceptable due to the exif data. Kharn |

Risque: Other images of the scantily-clad woman were uploaded to her Twitter page and included messages that taunted authorities searching for her boyfriend http://www.whatsonxiamen.com/news24689.html |

Dear Anonymous & fellow Americans # My name is Higinio Ochoa and until recently I have been also known as higochoa and w0rmer. I have spent the last few months fighting along side some of the best in the world. # On march 20th 2012 @ 10:30 am around 8 agents from the FBI stormed my apartment and put me under arrest. Shortly after I was taken to the Texas City field office where I turned over all evidence I had collected on myself, over the course of the last few months. I then spent the subsequent hours going over w0rmers timeline and confirming or denying my participation in various attacks... http://pastebin.com/jjMRFDH6 This pos can fly to Australia for nookie but has a Public Defender. BS! I hope they water board this guy until he grows gills and they get everything he's got stored in his pinhead. |

Yeah, and you wonder why having more and more data embedded in our daily lives is a bad thing.
Sure, it worked out ok for this situation, but what happens when they start using it for other purposes? |

Is there any way to get rid of the EPIX data in digital photos?

His downfall was being a general douchebag like the rest of these self-styled vigilantes. There are a number of programs out there which scrub EXIF data. Of course, you can always disable the linking of GPS information on photos in your phone, too. |

I get rid of the EXIF in my photos by using GIMP. You can save a file without the EXIF data. There's probably an easier way than that. First step is to turn off geo-tagging on your phone. |

Here's my opinion. They didn't arrest the real hacker. This poor sap was setup by the real hacker by falsifying the EXIF data.
It would be very easy to set someone up like this. It's not like EXIF data isn't editable. |
