I have a buddy that is going to London for a week in March. He was asking me about London pubs: Having

not been there myself, I advised him to get a copy of CAMRA's "Good Beer Guide". Other than that, can anyone

recommend some 'must visit' pubs??? Thx!

My pub-crawl in London was after a long and arduous journey to get there.
We were absolutely exhausted and I don't recall any of the names.  Just hit the touristy areas
and you'll be fine.

I couldn't tell you. The entire time I spent in London I was shit faced, I barely remember being there.

Depends where you are in London. If you are near the British Museum you can go to the crown or Horner's. Greek street has a bunch or bars and restaurants. Soho has lots of pubs.

This isn't a traditional pub, but when I was playing professional rugby the team would go to Walkabout. Lots of Kiwis, Aussies, and South Africans. Really fun place and friendly people. We would start and finish our crawl there.

If you can give a bit more info, you might get some better answers.

Cheers.

We just pick a street and stop in each pub for a pint.  The next day pick a different street.

The Hung, Drawn and Quartered.

It's across the street from the Tower of London.

Just go to Tower Hamlets and loudly declare that you are an American looking for alcohol.

That's interesting that you mention rugby, as the reason that my friend is going to London is to watch his son play. The lad plays B-side for Bowling Green, and the team is in some sort of tourny over there.

Might also want to post this in the UK hometown forum for more locals to answer.

I honestly don't remember the names of any of them in London.

Which part of London is he visiting?...

If he's coming for rugby and is visiting Twickenham, then our local, The Kings Arms Hotel, at Hampton Court is nearby. 300 years old and plenty of history.....

Sounds like a porno

Here's a description of being hung drawn and quartered, doesn't sound much like any porno I've seen (YMMV)

Immediately after the trial, Hugh Despenser the Younger was dragged behind four horses to his place of execution, where a great fire was lit. He was stripped naked, and Biblical verses denouncing arrogance and evil were written on his skin. He was then hanged from a gallows 50 ft (15 m) high, but cut down before he could choke to death.

Despenser was then tied to a ladder, and —in full view of the crowd— had his genitals sliced off and burned (in his still-conscious sight) then his entrails slowly pulled out, and, finally, his heart cut out and thrown into the fire.

Just before he died, it is recorded that he let out a "ghastly inhuman howl", much to the delight and merriment of the spectators. Finally, his corpse was beheaded, his body cut into four pieces, and his head mounted on the gates of London.

Twickenham is a required stop for him then. It is like Yankees Stadium for rugby. So much history there. When I left the North London Skolars, three weeks later they played there in front of a packed stadium and won. I wish I could have experience that but had to go back to the States.

He should go to a game regardless. There are certainly opportunities to do so.

Cheers.

One thing I forgot to mention:

Once there pick up a Time Out magazine. It is a weekly publication that posts everything that is going on in the city every week. From DJs to sporting events to museum times...

It is a must have, every week. It's cheap but certainly worth it. You can pick it up at a grocery store or mini market.

I always stay over in Pimlico, so there is a nice little pub called the White Swan on Vauxhall Bridge Road. I usually stop in and get a few pints in the afternoon. The Albert on Victoria Street is good too. It is very close to Buckingham Palace.
