I've never heard of a locomotive having an uncontained engine failure before. Ban Canadialanderish trains - for the Cajuns!

Both the house and engine will buff out. Just need some spackle and jb weld.

I've seen things go through the side of CAT 3412s... but never the top.

Finally, Canada is attacking, lets manifest destiny part duo, north to south their asses.

Damn! That's a big motor, and a big ol piston to come flying through your house.

The fuck is a Canadian train doing in Louisiana?
Cool pics BTW. When did this happen? ETA: I see US trains up here all the time. |

Quoted: 183L is still a big motor to me. If that's the monster in the ship, yeah, I've seen it.Quoted: Damn! That's a big motor, and a big ol piston to come flying through your house. That's a wind up toy. Have you seen that Wartsila diesel? |

That is unbelievable! It's certainly a testament to the tremendous pressures that are normally contained in those things. |

My lawn mower did the same thing. It was much less catastrophic though.

Might have been a ND from a 10mm. Looks to be a similar sized projectile and level of damage.

Polish it up and keep it in the living room. It would make a great conversation piece. |

Those pics are a couple of years old. Got them via an e-mail from my cousin who is a teacher in Edmonton.
Not discounting the coolness of it though. Best I ever did was blow the front drivers side cylinder out of a318 block the first time we played with nitrous. Literally con rod hanging out of the block. Awwwwww shiiiiiiiiizit turned into big grins. |

GE recently had a recall of their Evolution Series locomotives (ES44AC, ES44DC, ES40DC), which are the sucessor to the Trash 9-44CW Dash 9-44CW, due to uncontainef turbocharger failure.
That said this extremely rare, and I'm more worried about parts of freight cars.than anything off a locomotive. Canadian National acquired Illinois Central which is why they are in Louisianna. |
|
If anyone was sitting in that room, I bet some cushions need replaced.

I don't know what a "183 liter, 4400 hp V16 4 stroke diesel" is, but I want to put one under the hood of my Ford Ranger
I can put the fuel tank to feed it in my bed |

I sent this to my dad, who's a machinist (diesel mechanic) for BNSF railway. He said that based on pic # 2 (cylinder liner and head), it looks like the piston assembly bolts may have sheared off. You can see the bolt holes at each corner, and it looks like one of the bolts is sitting on top of the assembly.

Where's the ejection hole in the locomotive? Looks like it's on top, right in front of the stack. |

You guys ever see any pics of boiler failure on steam locomotives? Makes that diesel look like baby stuff. Picture the wheels the only thing left standing on the rails.
