..Grandfather..

Long story short..

My grandfather, 87, started having digestive issues 4 months ago.. he lost around 30 pounds during that period, and after a scanner, echography, and IRM and many other exams, they probably diagnosed him a pancreatic cancer...  Which is NOT a good news at all..

He lives in italy, and the hospital there refused to make a biopsy which would have told us if a surgery was remotely an option, or totally useless.. (liver and other organs are apparently not affected, and he didnt get yellow yet..)...

So we brought him here in Switzerland for another opinion, and tomorrow he will have his biopsy made at our expense (italian insurance wont pay).. I had him here at home for the last 15 days, and taking care of him has been a full time job.. he is somehow a rough person, but I always knew him this way, and I love him this way. But it has been some work...

I know there is not much hope for tomorrow, and even the best news they could give me would still mean something really bad...

Please say a prayer for him. Even if we cannot cure him, I hope he can live the time left without much pain or troubles. He is a tough guy, still rides his bicycle everyday for 2miles to get bread, milk and newspapers.

15 years ago he had another cancer (prostate) and he is still with us. I know God helped us by the time. I mean it.

Thats him in 1944 with other Partizans in northern Italy.

I know he has lived more than what he could hope for (bing drinker and smoker he was..), but I wish he could stay with my grand mother a bit more..
He has good genes.. his mother passed at 98, and all his uncle and Aunts, from 93 to 106...

Thank you !

Show him some Nikki pics.  That'll perk him right up.

Seriously though, hope all ends up well.  We'll keep him in our prayers.

Thank you guys. Much appreciated. He just got out of the biopsy.. Everything went well and he is awake.. He keeps saying they did nothing to him and that he never slept.. He just says they made him breath through a mask only ahahahah

Now we just have to wait for the results next week.

On the positive side, this hospital floor is FULL of young hot nurses...  made the day a little brighter...

Ok ok, I'll try to snap a pic without looking like a perv...

Prayers sent.  My father was diagnosed back in early September with stage IV pancreatic cancer.  More or less the same symptoms as your GF.  Abdominal pain, but no jaundice.  Unfortunately, it had already spread to his liver.

If your GF doesn't have any active metastasis, then his best bet is to go through the whipple procedure if he is strong enough.

This is what we hope for, but we are not sure he is strong enough to handle it.. We will have to see. Apparently, there are no metastasis.. Liver and intestines are sound. He has no pain either. Just loosing weight and diarrheas.

We will have to wait the result of the biopsy.. If the tumor is not an aggressive one, we could try the whipple. But it's gonna be up to him to decide.

Thx for the kind words everybody. In the meantime, we are home, and he is just fine for the time being.

Prayers sent.  You should be proud to be related to a MAN like that.  Have you written down or recorded his stories?  An oral history from a freedom fighter would be a great gift to future generations.

Sorry to hear that.

www.clinicaltrials.gov is how I found the clinical trial I got my father in.  They have European clinical trials as well.

Had to rush to Italy on the 25th.. He was sent to hospital because he suffered unbearable pains in the stomach and back.. Pancreatitis due to tumor obstructing the bile canal.. They might finally put a stent there. But I'm not sure..

Those ASSHOLES at the hospital waited for 72hours before giving him REAL painkiller based on morphine etc... Before that just simple analgesics etc.. We spent days and nights with him at the hospital.. It was like hell for him.. No sleep, moving in pain every 5 min... This morning after they finally put him on real painkillers he could finally sleep, but was totally exhausted, barely recognizing me.

I'm back in Switzerland for business, but my parents stayed there for another week.. I'll be going back in a few days (700km drive) hopefully to talk to him again, and for his funeral if we are all unlucky.

Please pray for him. I don't want him to go through this kind of pain ever again !
