Picked up just over an acre here in an area outside Wasilla. No power run the the area yet, but I am going in and picking up my solar/wind/battery system today. Have started cutting trees, and will be starting dirt work this weekend. Its a nice spot on a bluff that overlooks a lot of vacant land. On a clear day, you can see Denali from where the living room will be.

I'll be posting photos, as things progress and am glad to consider advise from the hive mind, just don't get butt hurt if I do not take it

Congrats on getting the land. So did you pay for it out of the gold you got this summer? If I am not treading on your toes what does a acre go for?

This is from the road. Driveway will be right here.

This is from about 50 feet from the road looking back up towards the road.

This is a view from the lot to the West of me that is cleared. this is eventually what the view from my spot will look like this weekend.

Sort of depends what part of Alaska and what you do.  Engineers, of various types, are usually in demand, state wide.  Think our unemployment has been hanging around 6%, or so.

Land out here varies a lot. A bunch of people are thinking if that bridge from Anchorage goes in the land out here will be worth a fortune. This is the only way Anchorage has to grow. It probably will happen. I paid 20k for this spot, which is a bit pricy, but the guy I bought it from dropped the price by 5k because he wanted me as a neighbor. The fact you can see Denali from it makes it a bit more valuable.

I have a degree in recreation therapy..I doubt lots of senior citizens live in Alaska.  Probably close to Anchorage since I like being around people.  Or Wasilla since that seems smaller but close enough.

So, one nice thing out here is that there are no real codes. The only permit I need is for my driveway where it connects to the road. Other than that. whatever you wish to do, do it. There are people here that have been living in tar paper shacks with outhouses for years. Others (like me) will rough in the land, and build a garage with a bathroom, and live in it for a year or two while they build their house.

Its gonna be an adventure.

You'd be suprised.  I do hearing aids and many of my patients are in thier 80s and up; think my oldest is 103.  I'm a bit farther north than you may want to tolerate since we hit 60-70 below zero at around the end of January.  I have been seeing more senior packing up and leaving the last couple years, though.  That's more because of fuel and energy costs around here than anything else.

Slab with in floor heat. Debating on either stick build two story with garage and workshop on lower floor, or a cabin and garage separate. Either way will be outdoor wood/coal boiler with a toyo stove oil backup.
