16, the orphaned girl moved to Israel and joined Haganah, an underground
Jewish military organization. She served as a lookout and sniper but
never killed anyone. Says Dr. Ruth of that interval:

"When I was in my routine training for the Israeli army as a teenager,
they discovered completely by chance that I was a lethal sniper. I could
hit the target smack in the center further away than anyone could
believe. Not just that, even though I was tiny and not even much of an
athlete, I was incredibly accurate throwing hand grenades too. Even
today I can load a Sten automatic rifle in a single minute,
blindfolded."

Her military career was cut short when she was seriously injured:

"My legs were almost ripped off on my 20th birthday in 1948
in Jerusalem from cannon ball shrapnel which exploded in the student's
residence where I was living. Three other students were killed instantly
and many more were wounded. The metal pierced both my legs, and there
was blood everywhere. A cannon ball from Jordan had smashed through the
window. I was thrown 20 feet. The strangest thing was that
all I could think about was whether there might be some blood on the
brand-new shoes I had just gotten for my birthday, and amazingly there
wasn't even a drop on them, which was all I cared about in some kind of
strange denial."

This looks like a true "Don't fuck with me" moment.
An awesome thread, thanks for the effort in pulling this together.
An incredible collection of hawt wimmenz.
I did notice a couple of things -
An amazing amount of touching, hugging, and even kissing.

Some of it staged for the photo, some not - some amazing candid photos.

Is this a .mil thing or simply cultural?
Secondly, several photos of ladies in civvies carrying a firearm.

Is the .mil required to be armed at all times ?

IIRC firearm possession is controlled quite heavily, so how does somebody

in civvies simply stroll down the street without attracting lots of 'attention'

given the political climate that they are living and working in?

I'm not an expert but here's what I could find.

From what I read, it's very hard for civilians to get firearm permits in Israel...but.....

Residents of Israeli settlements in the West Bank are issued assault rifles and ammunition by the army, and are given civil defense training. However, the rifles and munitions are property of the army, and may be confiscated at any time.
Self-defense firearms may be carried in public, concealed or openly. Israel is notable for being a country with few places where firearms are off limits to licensed individuals
Soldiers are allowed to carry their personal weapons and ammunition while on furlough during active service, uniformed or in civilian clothing.

As for the touchy hugging thing....got no clue.

The soldier was interrogated at the Biranit army base on the northern border after she refused to undergo a drugs test. A short while after her questioning began the soldier was seen walking out of the interrogation room and heading toward the main gate.

An officer at the base told her she was under arrest and demanded that she return to the interrogation room, at which point the soldier took her shirt off and told the officer: “Let’s see if you can arrest me.” The soldier took advantage of the officer’s momentary lack of concentration and quickly left the base. She was caught a short while later."

Thanks to all for the pix––I hope you got some more.
My favorite––the old one with the girls carrying 98k Mausers. I have one with the IDF markings rebarreled to 7.62 and it is unbelievably accurate with handloads. Nice to see a picture of it in actual use.
