I'm running a TI-83+, and I'm currently in Calc III. Next semester I'll be in Diff Eq and Linear Algebra, it's one class.
What are my brochachos of this board using? |
|
I've used a TI-86 since high-school.
My 10 Year reunion is not too far off. |

TI calculators SUCK. I still use an 89 Titanium for classes, but that's only because TI managed to get a relative monopoly over the school market and people figure using them exclusively is best for compatibility.
The pieces of shit still use Zilog processors. What the hell still uses a Zilog processor? The amount of memory is a joke, and they still use RAM to store programs. They are incredibly slow, too. The ti-84+ runs at, absolute maximum, 5 MIPS (million instructions per second). More realistically, they run at a MIP or two, or even as slow as .416 MIPS. A second-generation iPod Touch runs at 532 MIPS (being a modern RISC processor), which can be over a thousand times faster than a TI-84+ depending on activity. A second-gen iPod Touch has 333,333 times the memory of a TI-84 plus. The screen is color (versus monochrome) and has many times the resolution. It also supports a modern touch interface, bluetooth, has wi-fi, a web browser, audio, can play videos, etc. Guess what? They cost the same amount of money. You could probably get a netbook for the same price. I use my computer as a calculator whenever I can. Wolfram Alpha and a few math programs (namely apple's incredibly advanced grapher programs that ships with OS X) let me do anything I need to. |
|
MS Calculator
I don't really need my calculators as much anymore so I just use the one on my computer whenever I need to add some numbers. ETA: wiyager, I agree somewhat with you about the TI calculators... If on looks around, what do they see? Freakin smart devices that can do everything and then some yet a Voyager 200 still only has 2MB RAM or something retarded... Smartphones can be had for cheaper than a voyager too. |
|
|
stop saying rock
ETA: I'm sorry I was just joking. As sad as it is I use the calculator on my phone. Haven't needed to crunch anything besides gas mileage since grad school. -Coop |

Slide rule.
Seriously. Think Geek had them clearanced out for 15 bucks and I'm learning how to use a slide rule. Once I've mastered that, then I will have truly earned my thin necktie and pocket protector. |

I'm kicking around the idea of using it. |

Nearly done w my bsme. I used a ti-89 titanium all the way through. Works well for me but I agree that the processor is slow.

HP 48G, and the iPhone 48G emulator (m48). I've used HP since my sophomore year of college (1994).
TI is the Bose of the calculator world. Great advertising and name recognition, but poor performance compared to others in the market. |

Ti-89
Have been using it since high school back in 2002. Still use it everyday at work. |

The real question is, does Larue make a mount for it? |

Does it mean I am a nerd if I knew what brand of software that graphic is from? |
|
Real Calc, for free on my Droid. |
|
I have a TI-89 Titanium that I use for most stuff. My phone has a HP48G emulator which that is pretty good. If I need to iterate something I'll use Matlab.
|
|
I use a TI-36X. It was one of the few allowed for the FE and PE, so that's my go to calculator.
If I need to do anything involving heavier shit, I just use excel or whatever.

|
HP11C, Been using the same one since 1983. Now I also have an iPhone app that replicates the HP11C perfectly.

HP41cv and emulators of said device on Android phone and Ipad. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e72/jfg_4/misc/computers/Old%20Computers/IMG_2351.jpg Nice! I have an HP 41C (no V). I had a problem with it a few years ago, it wouldn't power up. I sent it to Randy at fixthatcalc.com and he got it working. (He really repaired it, didn't just change the batteries ) If anyone has a problem with an HP calculator, check out fixthatcalc. |

I have Matlab, and am SLOWLY learning how to use it. But for me, it's an answer looking for questions. CJ |

Ti-89 Have been using it since high school back in 2002. Still use it everyday at work. TI-85. My high school algebra teacher recommended it in 1995. Used it all the way through a BSEE/MSEE degree. Still works, but I brought it home from work because apparently real engineers don't do math. |

I rock an HP12c, I use it to value bondz playa

Haven't used it in ages but I keep good batteries in my -86
If nothing else, I can play some Super Mario on it if I get bored. My gal has a -83 or a -85 somewhere but I have no idea the last time that thing saw the light of day. |

Masterlock is a joke. In those dinky little TSA-approved masterlocks, there is only one single tumbler that actually seems to unlock the lock, the rest you can just ignore. I've never tried to pick a Medeco, but I imagine it's a bit harder. |

Medecos aren't impossible to hack and they have a few unique vulnerabilities, but they're definitely the brand I would choose if the rest of security was up to snuff.. master locks are fine on my pelican gun case since it's made out of polymer that could be defeated with any number of small power tools. No point in blowing $100 per lock when you can bypass them easily. |

ti83+, the 89 was restricted in most of my math courses. the chem apps on the 83 came in handy during a couple gen chem exams

Real ballers dont need graphing calculators. I made it all the way through Diff-Eq with a TI-30
