Is watching "The Walking Dead” seriously hurting American society? I would argue ‘Yes.’ Hate me all you want, or call me paranoid and misinformed, but there is one common theme that is pervasive in American pop culture today: violence. Even more specifically, zombie violence. The idea of a zombie-infested world inspires fantasies of monsters possessed by an uncontrollable rage to kill, and viewers get a thrill imagining what it would be like to participate in this new world order. Wake up and smell the coffee. Stop obsessing over eating brains, and focus on cultivating your own. |

at one time, pretty much the same thing could have been said about rock and roll.

|
and GTA inspires me pay hookers, have sex and then run the over to get my $$$ back
breaks from reality are a good thing you should see the OCD fantasy football guys/girls at work, their scary |

Zombies=Liberals. Both are brain dead society eating creatures. Yup, zombies are just a metaphor for something else. Like authority? We saw what happened after their cards were turned off and back on. We will see that gravy train come to an end, those monsters are very real and were created by the very institution that was supposed to protect us from evil. ETA... Dr. Manny you can suck it, if you aren't healthy enough to be able to distinguish fact and fiction you have no business telling anyone else how to live their lives. |

I've never been a fan of his. Looks like he didn't leave the communist behind when he fled communism in Cuba.

I agree, 'Zombies' is hurting our country.
Why? Because 'Zombies' doesn't truly prepare you for as much as I used to think. In the scenario of actual zombies, most of the human population has been killed off in a sense that you are NOT competing for resources with them any longer. In a crisis, resources can be scarce, as we all know, so why would we ever want to model something that it so flawed that it discounts the major survival issue of any forseeable crisis? Preparing for an EMP has to be better than 'Zombies'. An EMP, where the production of goods/resources halts and everyone competes for what's left. Also, the services and technology we all depend on all stops functioning. Then following that, people can't just continue to scavenge for food than they could ever want; they either find ways to produce more or die. I'm with the Marine crest dude that posted above. I watched through season 2, ran out of episodes, and didn't care at all. Fuck that drama show. My sister used to watch 'Degrassi' or w/e and I'll tell you, The Walking Dead is just like that show. They are the same show. Bitchy dramas. I've been told they kill off all the drama story people and do a lot better in season 3, but oh well. You commit violence interactively in GTA 5 and I think it'd affect people a lot more than a show. By the time GTA 30 is out, this country will be fucked. I like the GTA games though. |

I think America's obsession with free handouts is doing way WAY more damage. When the funds dry up your zombie apocalypse starts. Only they won't be after your brains it will be you stuff.

Speaking of The Walking Dead, is there anywhere I can see the show online.
AMC.com had the first episode of season 4 for free but I can't see the second episode becasue I don't have a cable subscription. |
|
Who is Dr Manny and why should I give a fuck about what he has to say?
|
|
I don't see anything wrong with it, its just a TV show for god sake, I have watched it religiously since the first episode and have never developed any fantasy/desire for the world to really turn into mindless monsters. I watched all the slasher movies of the 80s and never had a thought of picking up a hatchet myself or defending the innocent against one, I watched all the shoot them up movies of the time and never desired to be a cop or a special op troop,I will admit I watched a lot of porn and wished that young girls by the dozen would line up to be with me I did harbor that illusion

|
If the obsession with the show is hurting society, then this season will be the cure
|

Do I think the young ones should watch it? A firm no. But this show is no worse than any other modern action film or tv show out there. Does it make it right? I don't know but I think it's all about moderation. If you take it at face value and acknowledge what it really is.....entertainment then no big deal but if you have issues with deciphering reality from fantasy.....then maybe this show isn't the one you shouldn't be watching.

i was reading the comic for a while,, (which was great)
then i watched partial amounts of two different episodes, and seen that it was not following the comic and said.. FUCK THAT!!!!!! never watched it again... i dont get what the love for the show is either.. its just another fad,, so i dont really care,, just done like people posting on FB every 5 min about another stupid episode, or seeing boondock saints boy gay posing everywhere.. thats about the only thing that annoys me. other than that.. they can watch that show over desperate housewives of jersey shore,, or what ever stupid fuck nut shows are on now... yeah.. i dont watch TV either. |

2 things:
1 - I think that show freakin sucks. its only popular because the IDEA of zombies is cool, the acting is unbelievably over hyped and cheesy imo. 2 - I think people who get prepping ideas from tv shows are silly. Most of my coworkers (soldiers) literally think that how that show is is how an actual zombie apocalypse would go down. lol |
|
The show has become a bit like the soap operas my mom used to watch. a bunch of little tragic stories, cutting to the next at the cliff hanger. I watch every week, it is a nice distraction from the zombies I am forced to work with every day..
The 3 or 4 of us at work who follow the show get together on Monday morning and discuss what they did wrong. Do I think it is a show kids should see, no Do I believe that this is a plausible, real world possibility, no Will I keep watching because I like the zombie killin and Maggie's cleavage, hell yes |
|
Really OP? You think that Americans watching a TV show is a core contributor to the decline and fall of this country? I bet you hated Saturday morning cartoons when you were a kid.
|
|
The contribution of Walking Dead to the violence in our society is miniscule compared to first person shooter video games. Add in negligent parenting and single parent minority breeders whose spawn don't even know their fathers and the swirling around the drain intensifies.

Take the show for what it is mindless entertainment, Nothing more nothing less.

OMG, someone else that believes we are not smart enough to take care of ourselves. Please think for us, we can't separate life and fantasy.

Did you all know that just watching t.v. effects the part of your brain that opiate pain killers do? That's right, t.v. activates the same exact pain receptors while watching t.v. and puts you in a perpetual brain dead state, Zombie like even-
One side of the brain just shuts down like your high as hell.... you are then ready to be brain washed by electronic media- T.V. = Opiate of the Masses There is a website called Disinformation.com and there is a great scientific article on this - "T.V. Opiate of the Masses" ETA: A great book to check out from 1964, "Understanding Media- The Extensions of Man" by Marshall McLuhan |

It plays out the fantasy for me that we would never be encumbered by our societal bullshit we have built up over the years.
A fresh start. |

I gave up four episodes ago. Show sucks.
Wait- we have a zombie forum? |

"I don't see anything wrong with it, its just a TV show for god sake" Agreed. The real danger are the Liberal Socialist Democrats and Progressive Scum infecting America. They are the REAL ZOMBIES! RINO's are close behind

Watching The Walking Dead through season 2, I would say they had the same exact writers. Soldiers think that? That's SAD. But I understand it, they are as stupid as their also-young generation X friends and liberal voting families. I asked around one day and quite a few guys in a Cavalry Trp thought that we could win against our rural northern MN town of 20,000 people. Talk about a hornets nest, but with high powered scoped rifles for stingers, and in an urban/rural mixed area to boot. Also, civilian zombie fans (vast majority) LOVE killing off any soldiers they can. They want to think they stand 100000x better chance at surviving than military personnel. |

No, GTA games hurt America 100x more than The Walking Dead. Games are interactive, so you make the choices and follow through.
With the way GTA is going, GTA 10 will have rape, able to kill children (added in GTA8), and torture via genital mutilation. That's not bias from someone that hates games, GTA, TWD, or wants censoring. I like playing GTA games, watching the Walking Dead (not season 2), and think the last thing we need is more regulation. No one on ARFCOM should be calling for more regulation from the Gov't.... |
|
I'd LOVE to see Roy Rogers and Gene Autry wasting Zombies. How much better does it get than a "Singing Cowboy" poppin' Zombies with a six shooter? :)
|
|
I'm going to go ahead and say it since its what we're all thinking.
president osama is doing a better job of destroying the country than The Walking Dead is. There, I said it. |
|
Even my favorite kid cartoons of old have been toned down and made PC to the point that they are a sad, lame caricature of their former glory.
Those that are deeply affected by fantasy violence are fucked in the head anyway. Everyone wants an excuse for societal problems. You're barking up the wrong tree. Concerning the show, I've watched a few random episodes, especially the first season, but never really got into it. I find the killing of undead fairly uninspiring. |
|
Personally don't watch the show. Used to love the 28 days movie and resident evil.
Can't really stand Zombie movies anymore... Still like to prep like it's gonna happen though. Out of all the violent shit on tv and in movies.. Zombies are probably the most unrealistic of them all. How could it possibly hurt society? Just fun and games. |
