She will take the bear out of a basket, and drop it, head first in the water dish.

Do you remember the scene in the Godfather and the horse head in the bed?

Think about it!

Our cat does the same thing with a stuffed pig toy; usually the food bowl though.

She does it because she's not big enough to drown you.

I don't exactly know. Maybe to see if it becomes tasty, and edible? My prior cat used to do that with paper, paper towel, and tissues, and then eat them. He would also "experiment" with other objects, dunking credit cards, after-dinner mints, and baggage tags. He had been a stray for the first few months of his life, so was in the habit of eating as much as he could.

My two cats sometimes do this, with their toy mice- maybe as a game?

I think it is putting them someplace they can find later.  Like putting a coat in a closet.  Or a pistol in the safe.

Our cats do it with stuffed mice, tinfoil toy balls and little knit play balls.

Our youngest cat would do it with her freak rat stuffed toy when she was just a month or two old.

My cats do it with toys (into the sump pump hole) my hair ties or any other miscellaneous item on the bathroom counter (into the sink).  I don't know.
