Anyone else read this yet?

I'm about 3/4 finished with it and it's been a good read so far.

It's not his usual 40K setting, but it's still military sci-fi. An investigative reporter ends up having himself "chipped" into the mind of a soldier so he can get around the military stonewalling his access to the true story about a supposedly minor series of skirmishes. He's basically a passenger who can share sensory input with the soldier, but that all goes awry when the soldier is shot, leaving the reporter's consciousness in charge of the body.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit, as Abnett has always had a way of tweaking language in interesting ways. Plenty of sci-fi gun porn, some pretty gory scenes and conspiracies afoot. I recommend it.

Yes! I read it and thought is was awesome. It would make one of the coolest scifi war movies ever if made properly. I think he does a great job of inventing and naming new tech without it sounding "made up".
I have read Titanicus and it was very good as well. I need to find some more of his work that is in my wheelhouse.

I hadn't considered it, but it probably could make a pretty good movie!

I enjoy the way he takes modern language and changes it ever so slightly to make it sound like something plausible for people in the future to say. Things like "insect-aside" instead of insecticide. The Freeking © ling patches are hilarious, too.

If you can find them, the Ravenor books he wrote are awesome as well. They're based in the 40K universe and are focused on the Inquisition.

The Eisenhorn series is great as well.

I don't think I've ever read one of his books and didn't enjoy it. I did like the premise of the book you posted about, but haven't had the chance to actually read it yet. I guess I'll get to it next.

I thought about trying that one out, but out of all his books that one seemed to have the most mixed reviews. You'll have to let us know what you think of it, as the setting sounded interesting.

Found and read Embedded from my local branch library a couple of years ago.  Liked it.  Enough to start looking into what else the local library system had in it by Abnett.  Wasn't too interested in the Warhammer stuff (maybe someday I'll open my mind and try 'em), but found an odd sort of alternate world/fantasy thing he wrote titled Triumff: Her Majesty's Hero that was enjoyable.

Try the first Eisenhorn trilogy.  It was how I got my wife into the 40K books and now she's a huge fan of his (and 40K in general).

Triumff is the only thing of his I read that I didn't really like.  It was just so.....  Britishy.  I might have to give it another go.

Eisenhorn and Ravenor both feel like a departure from the main 40K universe. I enjoy the 40K mythos, but I think I enjoyed these books even more because they could have happened in just about any sci-fi setting really.

They do make a good introduction to that universe because you don't need much background knowledge to jump in to them.
