I use Pyramid flatwounds on my Gretsch 6120s, for that great retro sound.

I used to buy the VR11 (11-50) set for my strats (and Tele), in bulk packs, used them for years. I like the fact each set came with an extra 1st and 2nd string, cause I broke them a lot when I pushed a set too long. I bet I used a couple hundred sets. When GHS came out with the Burnished Nickel Rockers 11-50 (always hated the flat regular nickel rockers) I started using those, and still do. I always liked the tone of pure nickel wound strings, especially on single-coils, and don't use anything else.

I ran Gibson strings back in the 80's ..they had great tone for exactly one weekend or two practices. I usually ran through two sets a week.

That's why I fell in love with Dean Markley Blue Steel strings. That hold their tone for a long time and are durable. But since they changed the packaging, they sound a little different. I'm still on the fence as to whether I like it or not.
